Post by whendrix »

Thinking of purchasing one of the New Toyota Tundras with the 5.7ltr v8 and the 6speed tranny any body got one need to know the pros and cons.
Pull a 16 ft utility/lawn trailer around daily.

Currently drive a Silverado 1500 2wd 5.3ltr only problem with it is rear end gear is to high 323's and towing package/locking differential.

I have a '05 Tundra that I pull equipment trailers and boats with it all the time without any problems. Mine has the 4.7 V8. My truck was getting the 30,000 mile service and I had the opportunity to drive one of the new Tundra's with the 5.7 and going from my truck to the new one I can tell you that it is one hell of a truck.

The 5.7L has tons of power and is very responsive. I havent pulled anything bigger than my flats boat, but it pulls it much better than my gmc did, especially on the interstate. Braking is also excellent. Mileage isnt great, I average about 16, but my gmc only got 13. On the highway, I get about 18mpg @ 75-80mph. To be fair, my gmc only had the 4.8L in it, which was simply not big enough with 4x4 on an extended cab.

I have about 5k miles on mine and have been very impresses so far.
