The Ecky report according to Bad Behavior 9/18/07

Post by BAD BEHAVIOR »

Headed down for a stay at the Econfina Marriot Monday night and got there to find a windstorm. Got up early Tuesday morning and headed to spot number one. Quick hook up with red number one at 19 inches.

Hung around in close for a while putting a few more reds and some short trout in the boat. Decided to head out of the 72.4 degree water and went looking for some cooler filler. Went east to another spot only to find more shorties. Decided to head to another spot a little further out because the NE wind was pushing the water out fast. Second cast caught my first grouper of the year.

Fished on out and looked down and saw three brown bombers enjoying the shade of BB. Grabbed a jig and slung it out past them. Zipped it back and of course the big boy grabbed hold. Let him run for a second and then put a little zip in his lip. Fought him for about ten minutes and finally got him in on the 2500 Stradic. For some stupid reason I decided my buddy should get in on some of this action and kept the fish beside the boat while the other two cobes followed suit. After three attempts for him to hook up, I decided to try and put the 40"plus cobia in the boat by myself. Needless to say after tearing up the net, he spit the jig and was off to fight another day. Caught a few more trout and more trash fish than I can count. Biggest trout of the day 19.5". Brought home some grub and a good wind burn. On the way in , three hours after the low tide, I realized it was a really low tide. Got to the hill and the water was a foot from the seawall. Bumped a rock in the center of the river and lost a skegguard in the process. Decided to pack it in and head north until another, less windy day. All reds were released because Birddog said they were no good to eat ;-) . Brought home a decent box of trout and rockies, two fish shy of the limit. Reds were caught on Nemires and shiny metal. trout were caught on catch 2000s, rocket spinners, and of course, GULP. Also had many blowups on top water poppers but way to windy to set the hook!! The cool weather was nice!!!! :smt004

The wind has been terrible the last few days.

Not bad, considering the conditions.
What was I supposed to do today?

BB....nice talking with you at the ramp yesterday morning. We did decide to head out for a bit and it was quite windy as you predicted. We did fairly well fishing despite the conditions. We did manage to tear up the lower gear on the boat though trying to get back in. Our rock wasn't in the river though, it was on the flats :x I'll try to post the details later on with the pics of our eventful day/evening.....

We saw the BB down there yesterday. Hard to miss that boat. We were pulling away from the dock about the time you were backing down the ramp.

It was definately windy and coming out of the north like that made the bay pretty skinny.

where are the coordinates for said rock? Cuz I know you took the time to mark it so others might avoid it.

Going out anky is easy. For those "amateurs" here is a photo showing the red dots where the rocks are to avoid.... :-D
