How many times,if ever ,have you seen any kind of natural bait do a walk the dog motion?
Jumpy, you indeed have me at a disadvantage in that I can not quantify a number of times. I can say that I've seen stunned bait fish come to the surface on their side and preform similar motions as is created in the walk the dog motion. I can come closer to recreating that with a loop knot rather than a split ring. I hope this provides you with the information you were lacking and thanks for bringing the omission to my attention.
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
dont throw away the split ring, place at the bottom of your popincorkwith a hook. this way when your trout of a lifetime says "@#$%$% a 3" gulp how a bout that big ol thing up there". you will be prepared.
A split ring annnndddddddd a loop knot. I wouldn't think that both would be necessary. I'm not exactly sold on that loop knot anyway. If the lure comes with a split ring I use it but wouldn't add one. I use the loop knot sometimes but instinctively tie the clinch knot. Check the leader for frays after each fish and keep the plastic in the water.
