09-26-07 St. Marks with my Brother

Post by Welby »

My brother and I have been wanting to try our hand at trolling for some grouper. So we marked a day on the calendar about a month ago, which was actually yesterday, and waited. After looking at the forecast yesterday we decided to postpone it one more day.

Slide the Proline in at the fort about 9ish. Headed out the river with high hopes. We were meet at the mouth of the river with some heavy rollers. After some pretty good banging around we decided plan "B" should be put into action.

Plan "B" was to look for some trout. We fished mainly in 4' to 7' of water throwing , grubs, mirror lures, and shrimp. Had some luck with all of them....(yes, I can catch a trout with something other than a gulp).

We made several attempts to head to deeper water and try for some grouper to no avail. Everytime we tried we ran into the big waves and continued with plan "B".

We ended the day with 6 keepers from 15-1/2" to 20". Always great to spend time on the water with family. Tomorrow it's back to work but today was great. Here is a picture of Big brother with his 20" trout

Plan B sounds pretty good to me.

I thought that was you at the fort about 2pm. I had just picked up my boat/trailer after having some trailer work done at Shields. Since I was there, I figured I take the boat for a spin. When I passed the fort I saw somebody getting out of a ProLine, and he looked like the guy who towed me in a couple weeks ago.

I waved to your brother...who didn't look much like skeeter.
