9/27/07 TC & Mook

Post by tin can »

Given yesterday's tides, I intended to sleep in yesterday morning. Shoulda known better. Woke up at 0430. :-?

I met up with mook at 10, and we headed to the ramp. Ran to my secret spot where some good trout have been hanging out. There was a 20' Xpress sitting on the spot. Eased over to one side of the area and started flinging. It didn't take long for Mook to hook up.

Image

His first fish was 22".

We rode the rising tide in and started looking for reds. Didn't find near what the guy in the Xpress found, but we did manage to find a couple. I made a cast and hooked up, only to have my line break in the reel (note to self: change line more than once a year). Mook threw in right behind me and immediately hooked up.

Image

Not a monster, but a nice 21" red.

After fighting the wind for what seemed like an eternity, I was whipped, and we headed to another trout area. Mook hooked up again.

Not a banner day. I don't have any idea how many fish we caught, but it wasn't that many. But we managed a few fish, and enjoyed a day on the water.

Glad to have you aboard, Mark.

I was smiling because I was using braid to 20lb flouro with uni to uni and a split ring to lure. Thanks to you and BD for the tip. I'm not sure if it was that or that TC knew just where to go and when, but that fat trout (which is not nearly the longest, but fattest on a length to width ratio I've prolly ever caught) was the first thing I caught after pitching the snap swivels, so who knows??? I did still manage a few mini-fish (had a ladyfish slightly larger than my top dog and a couple trout in the 8-9" range maybe), but my first 4 or 5 were all in the 18 and up range, so maybe there's something to it ;)

Very special thanks again to Tin Can for allowing me on the Costa....it was everything I ever dreamed it would be (the boat I mean - don't get all perv on me)

Hopefully I'll do as well in about 6 hours when I hit the water again.
:-D
