I would assume that for pretty much all boats, but for whatever reason, this one won't get all the way up if I start with the motor down. If I had to take a wild stab at it, I'd guess maybe the motor can't pull the initial torque to get the prop to enough rpms, but pitching it up until it gets a little air under it allows it to do so?Barhopr wrote:I recommend starting off with the motor trimmed down nearly as far as it will go. I dunno...but all day today I started the hole shot with it up, hand on the switch trimming down as the rpms increased to get the bow down on plane, then trim back up to second gear. I got the hole shot pretty quick that way and reached 42mph into the wind. Also went 30.5 miles today on 6 gallons of gas, whereas yesterday I went about 40 miles on roughly 15 gallons give or take.
It's just not happy if anything other than the arse end is touching the water, but I also found out today that it handles the offshore chop quite a bit better than I expected...I was cruising along ~25mph give or take through 2-3 foot seas today very comfortably and bone dry about half way between the last range marker and St Marks reef, just to avoid the shallow water while making a run to the east. For a light 15 foot boat, that impressed me.
