I still haven't got my boat back all fixed yet, but fortunately for me, my buddy Steve was nice enough to take me out on his G3 Friday from the lighthouse. There was a -0.8 low tide predicted for morning, but he and I both like to get out there at sunrise, so we did that anyway. He wanted to get in to some reds, so we picked up some shrimp from Scott and threw those around the East River until some water came in.

Steve hooked up with a red right away that was about 19". I followed almost immediately with the smallest red I've ever caught in my life, about 8 inches or so. This was right at the East River mouth.

Other than that we got some catfish and the other typical garbage you get when bottom-fishing live bait. We moved up to another one of my ole' bottom-fishin spots on another oyster bar furhter out toward the channel. Once we got out there, I started getting lots of hits right away, but wasn't hooking up. I finally hooked in to a good one and it popped my line...frustrating. Around 11:30 there was enough water coming in for us to hit the flats, but I didn't have a red yet so I said '5 more minutes' and finally got a red on my 'last cast' at this spot.

My red was 24"

We chunked that one in the cooler and head for the east flats where we drifted in between the first pylon and stoney bayou the rest of the day. We got trout action non-stop the whole time we were out there. They started out smaller and got bigger and bigger as more water came in. We fished Spooks, She-Dog and Top Dog Jr. the whole afternoon and both got limits of keeper trout. We got the best action of the day between 15:00 and 16:00 in 3-4 foot depth over near the west entrance to Stoney Bayou.

Unfortunately got none over 20, but my 5 keepers were 16, 2x18 and 2x19 so not bad. The action was on fire when we left, but he had to pick up his kids and keep the wife happy so we headed out around 16:00 to come home. Best day of work I've had since I went fishin with TC last full moon

This is one of the 19's I think

This was my last cast of the day, just under 19" - I caught almost all my trout on the Top Dog Jr you can see on my rod in the pic here:

10# Power Pro braid all day, with about 18" of 20# flouro at the end.

oh and if you're asking cause of the line pop, I'm pretty sure a sharp oyster just got the braid past the leader...that stuff is really tough and that's the first time it's ever broken on me that I know of. Had one other break-off since I started using power pro, but I think the leader came untied that time as it was a hasty field re-tie of a leader I pulled off another pole cause I couldn't find the spool, which I later found in the livewell :smt013
