Spring Warrior 11/3/07

Post by beatswork »

My son said he'd go fishing with me if I let him sleep in 'till 9. Sleeping in and fishing have never gone hand in hand with me, I like to be at the ramp and on the water before all the weekend warriors (idiots) make it. So I was up early, chompin' at the bit to go, but took the time to give my gear the once over and organize my tackle box. Looking at the tides I rationalized that we would have more water moving on the outgoing tide, when we would be getting there.

As we idled down the creek I saw some small schools of spring mullet, thought I'd throw the net a couple times to work the dust off it. I got a couple mullet, but realized maybe I need to get the dust off my casting. Made some pretty poor throws, want to get better in time for the run mullet schooling up.

Got outside the creek, poled over to some bars and rocks right off the grass. Three or four casts in I got a strong hit. Nice 22' red. As he began flopping around in the box Alex was hooked up. Yessir, his first keeper red. As I was measuring him, 19' he caught another. We kept the first one, threw this one back to fight another day. I had another good'un hit me and started taking line. Somehow with the drag whinning he got off. Only saw him for a second, nice big swirl and he was gone. Would've made a good picture. Could not find a trout over 14.5" not too sure if they exist.

We fished mostly around the bars and rocks in 2-3 foot of water mostly using soft plastics. The color of the day was an eyeball burning neon green, almost the color of Oregon Ducks pants color. Would've scared me in the water, but the reds seemed to enjoy it.

Sorry some of the pictures didn't turn out, I'm no photographer and when the fish are biting it's hard to get everything positioned good for a picture. You just do the best you can.

The picture does not do this fish justice. It's color was the same as a brand new penny.

Cheesy grin was the result of the sun in my eyes.

The good news is he is now hooked on fishing. I was finally able to put him on some fish and now he's wanting to go get some more reds. Few fish fight as good as a redfish.

Got off the water about three, got some hamburgers on the grill and watched some football.

HOW 'BOUT THEM 'NOLES!!!!!!!!!
If we are not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?
