Keaton Beach 11-10,11-2007

Post by Reel Cowboy »

After a run to Agri-Supply in Tofton with Dad, we decided to head south for an afternoon (I thought) of fishing.

Stopped at Wilson's for some ice and a few new Catch 5s and 2000s and headed for the ramp. We got launched around 2:30 and headed out to sea. First drift was in 2.5-4 of water catching mostly small rock bass and short trout. Finally landed 2 keepers, nothing to write home about they measured and they'll eat. Passed Breambuster at the docks on the way in, I thought that was you but I wasn't sure enough to stop and talk.

Guess what, dad decides to stay at the camper Saturday night and fish Sunday. That's fine but the only clothes I had with me were on my back, but I did manage to find some clean drawers and socks in the closet.

We got up Sunday morning and it was a little chilly and knowing where Dad wanted to fish, I borrowed a pair of coveralls form the neighbor. Launched around 7:30 to a falling tide. Started a drift in 3 ft of water a few miles from the Marker 1 and proceed to catch short trout and small rock bass. Thank God for the overalls. Finally make the move to north of Spring Warrior and set up our drift only to be cut (twice) off by a nameless charter captian out of Keaton. But the new copper colored Catch 5 was putting trout (mostly short but a few keepersmixed in) in the boat. A nice flounder joins the cooler and a 16" rock bass as well.

With no trailer lights thanks to not having a plug-in anymore we decide to head to the hill so we could be back before dark. Loaded up and cleaned up at the camper and Dad notices a big knot in one of the trailer tires. After a stop at Wal-Mart in Perry for a spare we hit the road.

Fish cleaned and enjoying a nice CR and coke by 7:30 pm. All in all a pretty good weekend on the water.

Should have stop to say hello. I have yet to see another oriental (chinese) guy fishing at KB, so if you see one the odds is good that its me, especially if you see Calvin and I together.

I hate you having trouble with that nameless guide but in case you didn't know he owns all water and fish in the area. Unless I am mistaken you may have been trespassing and are lucky you were not shot. Good thing you didn't have kids in the boat they would have most likely heard some pretty strong language from him. He ran up on me and cussed me out for fishing in the channel one time. 'Captain Crainialanalitis" will also get nasty if you try to get in his drift. Strange but it seems as though all drifts belong to him. But he will cut you off in a moments notice. Yes he can put his clients on some fish and I have even learned a thing or two from reading his reports but I wouldn't want to ever come off the way he does and most of the guides I have fished with or met have been pretty cool and respectful of the non-profesional anglers on the water.

Where did you catch them prey tell, "45' of water on squid of course."

Glad you got some dad time with fish included.
Yesterday it was taboo today it is normal what the heck will they be doing tomorrow?

Oddly enough, what tipped me off was the guy in the funny hat and the boat from some of your posts.

You sir have crossed paths with the LORD OF THE GULF! In the future you should immediately leave the area and allow the L.O.T.G to fish were he pleases.Or you could just keep a 3/4oz Rattle trap tied on and when he gets to close clock him in head with it.

Dont make fun of my hat. Its the only one I have left as I've donated all the rest to the King Neptune out somewhere in the KB flats I may add.

RC :x You're going to have to be more specific with the hat comments. I sure hope you weren't talking about mine
Some day we should start a hat chain. I'm trying to figure out which boat you were, there was quite a convoy coming in at sun-down. Give us a holler next time.

WRG to for mentioned guide. We've gotten a lot of good pointers from at least one of the local guides. May be a little rough, but he's been much more willing to discuss techniques than most other guides I've ever met. I've never had any drift problems with him, but there are plenty of others that appear to be learning the fine art of projecting their drift.
