Got a late start Sunday at 8:30am, waiting to see what the weather was going to do. My wife and I arrived at the marina with only two boats ahead of us at the lift. After the lift operator lifted my trailer and boat about two foot off the ground and set it back down, they got it together and launched me safely.
The sky was overcast, the wind was howling, with a moderate chop in open water. Hardly any floating grass, and the water was mostly clear. 10 times better than it was there three weeks ago. Ran north to Adams Beach in three foot of water to start. Caught plenty of pin fish and set two out under thunders behind my drift. Started throwing top water. The action started quick. Started catching shorts on the top water, till I got tired of catching them and watching keepers jump over my plug. The live bait also attracted attention. We kept a steady bite going most of the day. We also stayed in two to three foot of water all morning. By 11:30am we had 10 trout. All were between 17 inches and 19 inches. No large trout all day. At that point, we moved for the first time all morning to an area I'd caught Rock Bass before in five and six foot. Fished mostly with cut bait, and ended up with 13 nice Bass.
Headed back to the marina about 4:30pm. Final tally was 10 Trout, with the largest being 19 inches, 13 rock bass, the largest was 16 inches. Only one shark caught and no catfish, also my wife caught one of the biggest Lizard fish I've ever seen. Looked like a darn cobia in the water. :o
As a final note, we got back to the lift with only three boats ahead of us. However, it took them 40 minutes to get to me. :thumbdown:
All in all, best day on the water in a long time. Extra special for me cause it's the first time in a while that I out fished my wife. :thumbup: :thumbup:

WTG.. :thumbup: You got a mess of fish. Too many not so good stories about that lift to ever convince me to use it. :-? :o

Good job CS,

really enjoyed the report. Sounds like you made all the right moves and choices and it paid off very nicely with some less than perfect conditions (wind and waves). Quite an accomplishment with no catfish..... although I don't think you could have caught one if you wanted to...... we had them all herded up around the mouth of the Econfina from the day before :o Thanks for the report.

PS Did you happen to hear any conversation about the rescue the day before (see my post in boating)??

Yes Sir Sr, I was at the marina on Sat. watching for clearing skies while the rescue was going on. Like everyone else there, I hung around thier radio listening to the drama take place. The folks on the distressed boat and Sea Tow were conversing back and forth with Keaton Marina while waiting for the Coast Guard. Sounded like a bad situation.
