Keaton Again Sat. Nov. 24, 07
So we wandered down to Perry for my brother in laws annual post front tough as heck fishing trip.
I called Spring Warrior, and talked to James at 10:00 he said zero water and fast N.E. winds.
His advice was don't try it or plan on waiting for hours before there will be any water.
We headed to Keaton no doubt there will be water there right? Wrong I have never seen it this dry before.
There were about a dozen boats waiting for water and one dog gone nut that wasn't.
I tied a rope to the boat and one to the trailer put it in reverse slammed on brakes about 4' per shot.
After three hard slams I was at the tipping point, I eased her back and off.
After hanging the trailer that one time, I wasn't going there again, so I did the old combat drop.
Away we go I ran about four miles and saw a good tide line and current rip and stopped to fish all by myself.
Within twenty minutes I was at the heart of the armada, surrounded by six boats cutting me off, about to crash into each other trying to get in my drift.
I bailed the area, water was coming in quick, so I spent an hour hammering the bars with nada to show for it.
I was headed to my stomping grounds and the same armada that had crashed my party earlier was all huddled up.
I decided to drift with them, and saw a couple of fish in nets but not in mine.
Dropped into one of my favorite creeks and got a pull I missed her and finally decided this ain't it.
We are right about normal for fishing with Frank, then I decide to run the bank, and get bit once or twice.
Finally I pop a Red on the ice it goes, then the bro in law pops one it barely measures and it gets tossed.
In the box goes a flattie now another Red and a Trout too, he is officially getting irritated.
I continue to catch a few here and there now I am getting scared he ain't going to put one in the box.
We fished till just about dark at the end we got a double and he got another it is about dark and we tucked tail and ran.
That was just about hairy as I have seen, it was getting dark fast and we hauled booty.
We got to the channel and passed a boat getting pulled in plopped her on the trailer and headed for Georgia.
A quick pit stop at Kens Bar B Que at Madison cured what ailed us, good Bread good Meat thank God lets eat.
Again we did not kill them but we dang sure caught them.
No to top water, Mirrorlure Catch 2000, spinner bait, Gold Redfin, White and New Penny Gulp on a CT worked for us both.

That was no horseshoe up my butt it was the whole dang pony.
Plain and simple it was tough, most folks on the radio were talking ugly.
The other boats I talked to did poorly and Pat Mc Griff's crew caught them on live Shrimp mostly and the Bite a Bait plug.
I started to buy a hundred but we wanted to go commando all or nothing artificial.
We came close to the nothing end of that proposition and didn't find them good till the end.
Four of the ten that got a free boat ride hit after sunset talk about a hail mary with ten seconds on the clock.
Last week the bait was so thick I didn't think you could fish Shrimp and the Pin Fish were hot and heavy on the Gulps all day.

You must have missed the part about the pony crammed up my butt.Perch Jerker wrote:Nice report. Good fisherman can turn a tough day into a gratifying day.
I just kept moving cranking and changing.
Before I get there I think I know what to do or where to do it.
Then I listen to the fish they will tell me where to go and what to throw.
I caught them where I love to fish this time of year.
There is a fine line between good and dang lucky.
I have never gotten to close to that line (I'm lucky and keep trying).
They were where I like to fish and bit what I threw.
What if I had skipped the rest and went straight there?
I'll tell you next time cause I bet that will be where I start not finish.

WAM, I admire your willingness to tough it out with artificials. I used to do that and have been skunked before - making the long drive home a lot longer. One time, we ended up with 2 or 3 fish and thought it was just a though day but ran into one of Ddb's friend at the dock and learned that they had a 3 person limit using pinfish. From that point on, i will keep all my options open.
Anyhow, good to know that the pinfish are still around. I am taking a client to KB for 3 days of fishing on the first week of December. Would you mind telling us what depth you were fishing?

In between or outside edge of the bars out going tide three foot or so.
Didn't work out like I thought it would on incoming.
Someday's Pinfish or Shrimp are the bomb often I catch plenty on the artificials.
One local says the ticket here lately has been fishing cut bait on the bottom.
Go gettem.

I am not a big fan of shrimp for the reason that you catch a lot of little ones. But on a slow day, it may help you to locate fish and once you find them you can start throwing artificials again. I prefer to thorw a plug to select the bigger fish but really when they are actively feeding, it does not matter what you throw at them.jsuber wrote:We stuck with Arty that day too, and some folks with a fan tossed shrimp and landed lots of little ones. Another fellow landed a 4 lb'er on something white with a green tail. Love those arty's.
WAM, thanks.
