Today was a good day...(actually morning)

Post by dolphinatic »

Last night my son was asking if we were going hunting or fishing this morning. We haven't been able to do much of either lately due to waiting on his baby sister to get here and the aftermath of after she got here 2 weeks ago. The alarm went of at 5:00am this morning and I shut it off and rolled back over :smt015 I checked to phone to see if my buddy Jeff had called wanting to go. He hadn't, so that made going back to sleep easier  At 6:00am, I did the 2 diaper changes and rocked the baby back to sleep. I went in asked my son if he still wanted to go being that "we" slept in. He said "sure." We loaded up and hit the road around 6:45am.
We got to the property about 7:35am and headed on up to the climber stands. I set on the edge of the cornfield and open area and my son sat in the middle stand where it is more wooded since he was using the shotgun. I was making all kinds of noise climbing the tree thinking that we had missed our chance for the morning...so what the heck. I had only been sitting there 10 minutes when I saw a huge buck walking down the firebreak on the edge of the filed. I put the scope on him and he continued to walk. He disappeared behind an oak, and a few seconds later reappeared still walking right along. I was afraid that he would never stop, so I gave him a quick grunt. He paused just long enough for me to squeeze off a shot. Down he went!!!!! Clean shot right through the back of the neck. I yelled to my son down the fence line and it sounded like he jumped right out of the tree! He thought I was playing around with him since we had only been there sitting for less than 15 minutes. I was still in shock myself because it all seemed to happen so fast.
We went to the woods this morning in my Geo of all things since the transmission in my truck is out. It was quite a sight watching us load the deer up in the back of the car......too funny and we just laughed about the entire situation.
The deer measured 17 3/4" at the spread and weighed in at 207lbs. The guy doing the mount said he figured it would go 135+ Boone & Crockett :o
Must have been my lucky BBF shirt

Dang Tommy, That ain't even fair.
You need to give the creatures a running chance at least.

You didn't even have to shiver or nothing and your coffee was probably still warm when you got back to the car!
