St. Marks 12/10/07 New Video added

Post by birddog »

Barhopr, Seaspot and myself had planned to attack St.Marks early this morning, but a surprise dove hunt delayed my departure. Barhopr and I met Seaspot at Jerry's , got a little breakfast then hit the LH. We launched around 10:00a.m. into a very shallow boat basin. We made it out under trolling motor power. We cleared the canal and headed out the river, intending to make a 17 mile run. Almost immediately Seaspot began experiencing motor troubles. He decided to bail out on the plan and just fish close to the LH. I hated to leave a man behind, but he said to go on without him.

BH and I forged ahead but after about 10 miles decided we had gone far enough. We got into the skinny stuff ....saw a few reds....I made a rookie mistake....BH lands a couple of trout. Not a bad start.

A while later we we found a few more reds and landed a few reds. We continued on, ended up seeing more trout than reds.

Later we fished a creek and landed another trout and a few more reds.

It was kinda a so-so day. Beautiful weather wise, but not a lot of catching. Tons of floating grass came in with the rising tide and hung around all day . That made the fishing kinda tough.

We ended the day with 8 reds to 27" and 3 trout to 24". Caught 'em on spoons and soft jerkbaits.

Enjoyed the day BH I look forward to the next trip. Seaspot, sorry for the boat trouble. Hopefully you can get it fixed pretty easy and join us next time.

Can't wait til next time.

Looks like a great day fellas. I need a fix bad. Glad Sea Spot had trouble when he did and not after running 17 miles...that would have been ugly.

That thing was a bleedin'. Funny thing was it was hooked in the corner of his mouth. There is obviously a major artery in their face :o
