St. Andrews (Them vile bastages) 12/13/07

Post by Chalk »

After eating Christmas lunch with Lil Chalk, I was backing the boat in the water at 1130 (low tide). Eased out of the boat basin and let the dawgs eat and had a nice ride to the promise land.

Decided to go past where I saw all the fish Sunday being that it was earlier in the tide...figured the fish had came from a bayou and I would intercept them sooner...After seeing school after school of nice mullet, I finally see red. But, he must of thought I was the police and he had warrants against him cause he ran

Eased on down the bank and find some nice sand and potholes...easing along I see a flicker of red...hmmm alot of red...nice school of reds and mullet...I tossed a weedless grub at the school, had one red take a bite, but missed it....it fouled the lure, so I picked up the "goto" lure...down range...no takers...again...no takers...DAM YOU VILE BASTAGES

They have been burning about 4,000 acres at the beach....wouldn't you know that the smoke would block out the sun on a nice flat with redfish :smt013

I decided to goto another spot....on the way I decided to hit the flat where I caught a fish Sunday....The flat was eat up with small schools of reds...I made some of the most perfect fly presentations you could of asked for and they wouldn't eat....I saw a school of nice reds working down the bank some of the reds were rubbing the bottom and showing there undersides :smt007 . I lay the fly out 12 ft in front of the school....wait...wait..wait...twitch, twitch...right in the lead fishes face...the whole dam school swam over and under the fly....DAM YOU VILE BASTAGES

I make some more casts to some other fish and got the cold shoulder....moved around a lil bit and had one more bite on a spoon, but it didn't connect.

Needless to say I was little disappointed in the catching...but realized I saw some beautiful fish, made some very nice fly presentations and I was fishing...Nothing like watching the ball drop on the Gulf of Mexico

Had a blast....hope to do it again tomorrow and teach them vile bastages a lesson

The reds were off today for me as well. I put the fly in front of lots of reds that had absolutely no interest in playing. Still fun though. Glad you got out Chalk.
