Another Public Lake Duck Hunting story...

Post by bman »

Got out this afternoon hoping to shoot a bird or two.
No high expectations - looking to be outside and enjoy some freedom.

Picked a spot and set up - put out 3 doz decoys and lit up a stogie.

About two hours before sunset two guys paddle over in a canoe - they were coming right at me till I stood up.
They gave me a wave and paddled another 50 yards and pulled into another island. :smt103
They were so close I could hear them loading their guns.

The skybusted the only bird that worked my decoys...
It was nice to get out but that nearly ruined my day. :smt093

I gave up the public scene years ago, and from what I've been reading on the net, it's just gotton worse.

No solitude. Available only if you go very deep in the wilderness, which is way more work than I care to do.

Stinks...had some ride by me on Saturday, stop within my area and holler out to ask how I was doing. All this as a pair of big ducks were working my spread. :smt012

Their logic totally defeats me.

By stopping so close to you, not only will they potentially spoil your sport, but having you so close to them could spoil their sport.

Bman I only saw one duck on Micc Sat. I heard couple of woodies early, and of course the other hunters shot maybe 2 boxes all over the lake, but SEEING ONLY ONE DUCK IS RIDICULOUS. Of five boats I talked to at landing, harvest was total of 2!!!

Barry.....you need to come park in one of the fields on our property and forget the public water. Bring your boat and sit in it too if you like  I have had more ducks fly over me in the deerstand this week than I can ever remember....and low too  Might have to take a shotgun in the morning and bust a few caps before dawn :o

Was in the stand this morning about 6:15am. Before 7:15am, I must have had 150 ducks fly over....sometimes as many as 20 at a time. Didn't shoot at any, but did ruin a big coyote's morning

You need to be very very careful,me thinks those might be attack Wood ducks, when they get in those big flocks they will attack you from behind and be gone before you can say"dang it" so if you need somebody to watch your back while you deer hunt just holler, :smt006
