Wacking hacking and stacking at the Warrior

Post by What a mess »

The wife got over-ruled Redbelly couldn't get a rider we left LATE. Got there REAL LATE 3:30 P.M.

Rode to where I thought they would be and Redbelly picked up one real quick like and that was it, it was not going to happen.

In the spirit of I ain't as stupid as I look, we hauled tail to where we had left them chewing yesterday and guess what?

They were stacked racked and packed with about 90 minutes to fish I poured the coal to the fire and started cranking them in.

What pray tell? Trout the size of Dallas, one after another with much grace Redbelly netted one after another.

One time as I was shouting hurry he talked all nasty to me, something was bothering him like my other rod and reel in the net.

Or maybe could it have been because he couldn't buy a bite? I finally got him to change his ways and he did catch one at the end.

I brought one in that you could only see an inch of plug sticking out of her mouth, she looked like a mob boss chewing a cigar.

Did I mention she was 28 inches long and the tail had to be turned back to fit in the cooler? I lost another about the same size.

Redbelly is still stuttering he and Chug Bug said yesterday that it was the best inshore day they had ever seen.

Redbelly said if its possible today was better, he has seen more and bigger Trout in the last two days than ever before.

Yes I did put on a heck of a show for him today, I bet it won't be long before he makes his way back down there.

We stopped at the road side Bar B Que stand in front of Winn Dixie again the food was off the charts Ribs, Chicken, Sausage.

Danny and his wife Pam Know that they are a couple of great cooks and his wife can tell a joke too! Stop in you won't be sorry you did.

Redbelly promised to post some pictures of the fish from today. Silver and black Bite A Bait, slow slow slow is the way to go.

If you get the chance to do the dance, bring clean shorts, cause the way there biting you might crap your pants.
Yesterday it was taboo today it is normal what the heck will they be doing tomorrow?

Everybody else is thinking it, so I'll say it, What the hell are you doing keeping a 28" trout, you should be ashamed taking that many potential offspring out of the population. :smt011

Ah so PETA has spoken kids reading porn O K adults keeping one trout over slot size trout not O K?

I guess you put back the twenty-seven inch Redfish right?

We catch them bigger than that and never keep one over our limit or more than one per man over twenty.

We threw back so many trout over twenty inches neither Chug Bug or Redbelly can comprehend it.

I already warned Redbelly I might let him keep one Jumbo but in the last five years we have put back a bunch over thirty.

I do.

Keep all the 15"-20 trout you want, but a 28" is just too special to make into a turd.

I am on your side WAM ....If the law says you can keep 1 over the slot and you decide to keep a 28" trout I sure think you deserve to keep one no explanation needed .I would bet the FWC expects this and has planned for it in their evaluation of the fishery. If they see fit they will change the regulations without your imput. Verry nice catch.

Nice day WAM. Sounds like you slayed 'em.

While I understand that you weren't breaking the law and completely within your rights, if you were catching "so many" over 20", why keep the biggest? Does a 21" trout taste any different than a 28"? If you need some extra fillets, I'll gladly pull some out of my freezer for you. However, from reading your past reports, you're a quality fisherman and don't.

I do disagree with your comparison of a 27" redfish to a 27"+ trout. It is my understanding that most of the breeding is done by the 33"+ redfish that primarily live in deeper water (one of the reasons we can't keep fish over 27"). According to the Lousiana fisheries website, female redfish can grow to 27" in a little over two years. Males were slightly under that number at two years old. I don't think a 27" trout can be grown in 2 years, maybe eight to ten. A trout that does reach 25"+ is most likely a female and produces thousands (probably more) of eggs in a breeding cycle. These are the genes that we want passed along.

I also think that you're smoking crack when you say that you've caught several trout over 30". They're just aren't that many out there in this region. Period. If Junior Dice (who fishes 20+ days a month in the same area and has been for 15 years) has only caught two over 30", I just don't buy it.

Just my thoughts.
Boom goes the dynamite.

Ok guys I think y'all can calm down. I measured the fish this morning, BEFORE I FILETED IT, and with my carpenters tape measure it was really only 24".
We just thought it was bigger last night cause the ruler was 22", not 24" like we thought, and a quick comparisson fooled us in the boat.

BIG DEAL! As If a man keeping one 24" or 28" trout 3-4 times a year is gonna ruin all the trout fishing......

I never keep over the limit, and a limit of trout and reds in one trip is more than my family can eat in one sitting anyway.

WAM even got upset at some guys that "said" they took in one over their limit and then came back out for more!!
If you could have seen his reaction to that you would eat some words right now.

You guys are catching the wrong attitude about this I'm telling ya for sure.

We are not "game hogs".

Just fishermen.....who sometimes exaggerate a little. :-D
