Lanark - 12/31

Post by Supa Fly »

Well, I read Noles post and someone mentioned that they wish more people would report skunks. Well, here's another skunk report. We were heading out of the basin as Nole was putting in. Came back in around 1:30. The forecasted 5-10 and mostly sunny turned out to be 15 - 20 with 100% cloud coverage until about 12:30 (what else is new). We found a school of rats hanging around an oyster bar, but they were ultra spooky. Saw about 4 decent fish hanging around some other bars - skiddish as well. Called it early and went to Coastal in Panacea for a grouper sammich. The end. :smt012

I'd give my left "you know what" for a bluebird calm day at the coast.

Glad you got out there.

Sounds like you went west Supa. Those were tough, close to undoable sight fishing conditions. I stayed on the push pole all day without any desire to move forward.

Thanks Nole. I had a good time I am glad that we were not the only ones to go zero. The fish just would not eat even when you could get a cast on them.

Thanks for the report.
Educational.
What did I learn?
That fly fishing is sight fishing. Sort of knew that but as I kayak only :-? I don't get a lot of sighting.
My method is to find fish in likely spots and then switch over to the fly rod.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

Yeah Nole, we went West. I never saw you come by, so I assumed you headed down to TP. Coastal was definitely the best call of the day. Sometimes you've just got to know when to suck it up and call it. I just wasn't expecting to have to do that on a day with such a good forecast though, what was I thinking? Littoral, I don't know what kind of kayak you have, but you need to learn how to stand in that thing. Maybe get some stabilizers or something. I sightfish out of my kayak quite a bit, and your odds are a lot better sightfishing out of a kayak than out of a skiff. Of course, I prefer wading if possible over both. Looking forward to April.................

Thanks for the report Supa. I wonder sometimes if I'm the only one struggling. Glad you got out, though.
