I need a $5000 truck....

Post by Steve Stinson »

I am in the market for a cheap boat puller / kayak hauler. Here's what I'd like to find, but anything reasonably close would work:

1. I am partial to Nissan's and Toyota's so my first choice would be a Nissan or Toyota open bed truck with four doors. Older is okay. Barring a truck, a Pathfinder or Fore Runner would be okay. 4X4 preferred for some of the places I haul my alum boat and kayaks, but not absolutely necessary.

2. Second choice would be an old style Jeep Cherokee. I have a Jeep CJ restore project going, and have gained a lot of extra knowledge and Jeep parts in the process. Again 4 doors needed since I have 3 kids. I do not want a Grand Cherokee.

3. 3rd choice would be an old Suburban, but it would have to be real dependable. With the cost of gas for this one, I wouldn't want a lot of repair bills.

I can pay cash for the right truck. Just respond here if you have anything that may fit the bill.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 1997 Ford F-150 for sale with 131,600 miles on it and I'm asking $5,695. It's a 3-door super cab model with a small V-8. It has been a good truck for me and I'm only selling because I found a deal on 98 model for my son. See my "For Sale" posted here on 12/29/2007. You can reach me here or my home email is k_squires@comcast.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I will be glad to send pictures. For some reason, I couldn't get them to post on this site. I used the truck for hunting and fishing and it pulled my 175 SeaChaser just fine.

Thanks

I have been slow to respond to this thread because I bid on the Jeep that Wevans posted. I was fortunate enough to win the bid, so I am headed to Winter Park. If anyone wants to ride shotgun and swing by Bass Pro Shops in Orlando, it's right on the way. You will need to let me know quick if you want to go, as I am trying to set up meetings now at my Central FL offices.

I appreciate all the help in the truck hunting effort. Thanks to Wevan's especially.

It's checking out good -

I headed down to Winter Park with a buddy at about 4:00 am Friday morning (my buddy had to be back by dinner time to fry fish for his family). We went to City Hall and paid for the Jeep, then headed to the maintenance yard. When we got there they had it pulled up front waiting on us. It's your typical , generic, white government vehicle. They handed me the title and all the maint. records.

First test drive was back to I-4, then down to Bass Pro Shops everything checked out good. When I started it back up at Bass Pro, the starter ground, but it hasn't done it since. One time at a rest area on the way home, the oil pressure dropped low and a warning light came on. I shut it back down, and checked the oil, which was full and clean.

Today I ran some Sea Foam through it, changed the oil and filter and scrubbed it inside and out. It was very obvious that the city code inspector who used this vehicle ate in it a LOT. Coke and coffee spilled everywhere. I spent all day cleaning it up and drove it around Tallahassee running errands. It hasn't had any problems.

I have noticed the temp guage fluctuating once in a while, much quicker than the motor could possibly be changing temps, so now I am wondering if I don't have guage problem.

I will post some pics when I get a chance. I have a roof rack, rims, tires, and a lift kit in it's near future. It will be a full fledged fishing truck.
