What a dump
I have had the good fortune to travel many parts of the world and have always considered Florida to be one of the smartest/cleanest of most, I love this forgotten Coast area best of all because of its unspoilt rugged charm, over the last week or two I have been travelling from Alligator Point to Saint Marks via 98 some of the roadside verges have odd amounts of litter on and I have seen prisoners clearing this up[ great site to see, which we had this in the UK] however 98 from Medart to St. Marks has been full of litter every time I have passed along it, does this area suffer because of tourist use/abuse or is it locals discarding their litter? does it never get picked up? honestly for what is an area of outstanding beauty it is a damn disgrace...........please name and shame anyone you see littering the countryside, it's yours be proud of it!

Re: What a dump
In my opinion, it is convenience store litter. There are 2 stores, one each at the St Marks crossing and the Shell Point crossing. Also 2 stores at Medart (one at both forks). So the road gets it from both ends......about midway is where you see most of the trash. They buy the stuff, and just chunk the trash out the window.
I have actually seen folks throw their bottles, beer cans and cracker wrappers out in that area. Shameful and disgraceful, but no one I guess enforces the litter laws in that area.
Just another sign of these times. No one has any morals anymore....

Re: What a dump
ditto what JT said about convenience store debris. Also it is more obvious this time of year with the grass dormant and the FDOT mowing crews not actively servicing the roads during the cooler months. Maybe the sheriff's crew can help out.
Re: What a dump
A good portion of that litter is from high school kids, you don't see it as bad during the summer,it's just a matter of raising and disipline and most of these kids don't have any.

Re: What a dump
The stretch from Medart to the Shell Point road is also a section that is used to go to the county dump, a lot of folks don't properly secure their garbage when transporting it "as well as the garbage collectors"
