A new boat ramp for St. George Island is a step closer to reality. Last week the county commission opened bids from four companies interested in building the ramp at the foot of the old St. George Island Bridge. The county has a one million dollar grant to pay for the work and is putting up 124 thousand dollars from its boating improvement trust fund as a match for the state grant. Bids opened last week ranged from just over 500 thousand dollars from Ben Withers in Wakulla County to almost 750 thousand dollars from JD James from Monticello. The bids have been turned over to the Engineering firm Prebble Rish for consideration. The county will decide which bid to accept when they meet on February the 5th.
I assume since county funds are being used there will not be access restrictions like residents only?

I recommend they get the same people that built the ramps at Cash Creek. Those are some nice ramps.
