LAKE IAMONIA

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

HI ALL, CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A RESONABLE EXPLANATION WHY THEY ARE STILL DRAINING IAMONIA. I WENT OVER THERE YESTERDAY TO SEE HOW HIGH THE WATER WAS, TO MY SURPRISE THEY HAD KNOCKED THE DAM BACK DOWN AND ABOUT 1,000 GAL. A MIN. IS RUNNING OUT INTO THE SINK HOLE. ALL OF THE LILLY PADS ARE DEAD AND THERE IS ABOUT 2 FT. OF BLACK MUCK OVER THE ENTIRE LAKE EXCEPT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY SHOULD BE HOLDING ALL THE WATER THEY CAN INSTEAD OF DRAINING IT OUT.

They are planning on more muck removal this year. The dam was removed to allow more natural water fluctuations over time to reduce problems with muck developing and other probs... Won't help the fishin much which is why it was damned in the first place.

A good TS or two in the right place and it will be back in all her glory. The pads will be back too.

HEY BIRDDOG THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I KNEW THAT THERE WAS A REASON FOR DOING THE DRAINING BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT.

Are they going to turn it into a jet ski and pleasure craft lake to satisfy the neighboring residents?
Is there any public information about what they are doing and why they are doing it?

I kinda liked it as a duck hunting, fishing and frogging lake myself. Wonder why they haven't done the same to Miccosukee?
