1/26 and 1/27

Post by SHOWBOAT »

Braved the weather both days this weekend. Saturday actually wasn't much worse that Sunday. Saturday was overcast (but never got rained on) and Sunday was windy early. I think I actually preferred the overcast, flat seas of Saturday.

Saturday I had my buddy come to the house around 5. Raining and ugly out, so we proceeded to compare BlueChart, a Delorme and Google Earth and do some prefishing reconosince. Found some interesting stuff and when the rain stopped around 9 we made our move. Found the reds in skinny water and they were willing to bite on the rising tide. Landed one perfect tournament fish at 26 7/8ths along with some other lower slot fish. Think we saw Mojo and Mook (two folks in stocking caps trying to manuver a Scout into shallow water), but they didn't respond to my wave so maybe not.

Sunday I hit the water with the family around 1. Played fetch with Boo in the shallows until water rose and we could make our way closer to shore. Only landed two fish, the smaller of which Boo tried to attack when it was about 20 feet from the boat.

Explored some new territory and had some reds pull a little line. Saw a lot more reds along with tons of mullet, but not a single trout.

Rising tide throwing spoons, jigs and jerkbaits. Fish seemed pretty hungry.

Nice job, especially Saturday. The weather looked ugly, especially the wind.
I don't think I know anything about how to catch redfish. :-?
Any pics?

Good report. I fished both afternoons on the rising tide, and found the overcast calm conditions on Saturday to be far better and more productive than the windy mess of yesterday.

And we caught Redfish in the wind rain but were totally exhausted fom paddling in small channels and creeks looking for fish like we were Magellan. It was fun exploring but exhausting, and to not hijack a thread, but great job Showboat. keep that spot in mind on Feb 9.

That must have been us Show. Sorry if I didn't wave, but I don't remember anyone waving at us, except for some people in a boat that were fishing Stoney too.
