Lanark 2/2

Post by noleflyfisher »

On at 11:00 off at 5:00. An amazing day. First flat I bounced from pothole to pothole with decent success. Moved to a bar that I haven't looked at in a month or two. Immediately saw a school of twenty or so reds working toward me. Got one fish out of that group. Continued down the bar and came a cross two more groups of fish. One more to the boat. Leave to let the fish settle. Came back an hour later and started down the bar again. Not long after, I see a huge fish working up the edge. She's 50 yards away and just cruising slowly; definitely on the eat. I wait for what seems an eternity and then fire a long cast to her right, just off the bar. She doesn't see the bug or doesn't want to drop off the edge to eat. I pick up quick and this time I lead her a good bit casting across her face and right on top of the bar. As she approaches I give it a twitch and she lights up and charges the fly. She tries to eat it and misses as I strip. I keep pulling the fly off the bar and she does a 360 and drops off the edge and inhales the bug. I came tight and she buzzed into my backing as she made it for the swash channel. After a little give and take she was boatside. A gorgeous fish, 31 inches, 12lb. After that everything was gravy, including a 26 inch, 6lb trout. Tides sucked today but the fish were doing it.
