Feb at Cape San Blas?

Post by lostkeytackle »

A small group of us are staying on Cape San Blas in mid-February. Any information on where to fish from shore would be appreciated.

Also, where in the area can we get a cold beer and a big screen TV to watch the Daytona 500?

First guess, the stump hole for Redfish. Muddy water stays warmer. Use a CT Gulp combo. The I Canal could be good but not much on asthetics.

One choice, Indian Pass Raw Bar, but again, not much on asthetics. orange and blue aren't my favorite colors

Where's the Stump Hole? Ask when you get there.
It is "much" on asthetics.

How about suggestions on where to fish from a boat? Only times I've ever fished SJB is during my annual scalloping trips in the middle of the summer, so I have no spots shallower than 3 feet. I'm headin that way for a few days at the end of the month and will be there for day 1 of the 'trout season' I'll be launching from eagle harbor.

The stump hole is the bend on your left as you get on island. You used to could park there, but it has been a while since I have been on the island. For a boat you can put in at Presnell's but it is shallow. The state park has a nice ramp and you can catch trout in 3-4, red's in shallow and the big toothy's near the boat channel.

Thanks for the reply - Eagle Harbor is the state park ramp location - I'll be camping there with the family and just wondering if I needed to go anywhere different earlier in the year - what ya said there is about the same as the patterns I've seen there in the heat of summer.

I recall the seawall at the old paper mill being a good spot for trout, reds, and sheepshead on super cold days in the winter. We used to fish it when I was a kid with live shrimp and just kill 'em. Stumphole is good, and also the dock pilings down by the old military barracks.

People were catching trout off the docks of the marina at the end of December if that helps any.
