Gulp! comment.

Post by flounderpounder »

I have noticed a bias against this artificial bait recently that I was wondering how it developed. Does catching a fish with Gulp in any way make your catch any less? It seems like for the folks that drive distances to fish would accept a edge to catch more quality fish consistently. I have been in schools of redfish that would hit a Gulp 4-1 to any other bait. I do not use them very much in the warmer months because of bait stealers, but in the dog days of winter there is not a better bait on the market.I just wanted to throw that out there and see what my fellow anglers think.
Tight lines,

I have used it quite a bit and will continue. The only hangs up I have seen is the fact that is is expensive ,does not last long and stinks to high hell.I do like the fact that it does work.I can take my kids out and they can atleast catch something weather it be a Blue fish, pinfish, lizard fish, and even catch trout and redfish. To me it is just another tool to help catch fish.If any other company come out with a bait that works the same with the same properties as gulp i'll add it to my tackle box as well.

Nothing wrong with gulp, if thats what you like. I don't use it for the same reason I don't use bait, it's messy, time consuming to stop and buy it or catch it when you're trying to get off to go fish. I like arti. because my bait is always ready when I am.

Not sure I understand your comment BH?

I consider Gulp an artificial just as much as I consider a bass assassin grub or a skitterwalk an artificial. I use it because I think it gives me the opportunity to catch more and bigger fish. I don't fish with live bait because a majority of tournaments don't allow it and I don't enjoy watching a cork. Might as well practice with what you use on gameday.

In tournaments, a gulp jerkshad is the only thing that will touch my jighead (when I throw one) and a good bit of the time it works.

I'm okay with people who don't use them because they're too expensive or smelly. But don't tell me you don't use it because it's like using live bait. That's a b.s.response. If it's good enough for the Redfish pros, it's good enough for me. Sure, some might get paid by Berkley, but a majority of them use it because it works. If the Watts' brothers use it to make a living, I believe I'll have a bag of them on my boat.

Frankly, I think we should encourage more people not to use them because at the end of the tournament, it's more money in the pockets of those who did.

Not meaning to be an ass, those are just my thoughts.

On second thought, it's none of my damn business what other people use. Sorry.

I was told I should let this post pass :smt012 guess I should have listened.
Cassey, buddy...I could not care less what you think of my response. And I don't care what the "Redfish Pros" use or what the Watts Bros. use. M. Jordon wore Nike, but that doesn't mean you by a pair and play like Mike. I don't care what you use. If you like Gulp use it, but don't bash me cause I don't like them because they stink and smell up the boat, my hands, my tackle bag and everything else. I never said they were the same as bait. I said I didn't like them for some of the same reasons I don't like bait.

I don't use GULP it's like cheating, and Tiger Woods still carries a persimmon driver in his bag. You have to stay up with the technology of the world that we live in today or you will get left behind. :-D

I sometimes interpret comments about Gulp on this board as "the use of Gulp is tourist fishing", but if you go to Louisiana and throw a gold spoon, you might as well be throwing a CT. To a Cajun, its like deadsticking a shrimp off a five gallon bucket from the HWY 98 bridge on the Wakulla River. I personally like to catch fish, and if wearing a denim jacket and pants while slinging a Stretch 25 with a popping cork is what it takes, I'll have four rods ready and a dry cleaned Canadian Tuxedo on Saturday morning.

Best of luck to everyone.

Shoes don't help you make jump shots...hell, MJ could've dominated in Cole Haan loafers. Tiger could probably still dominate with persimmon woods. But I think there is a direct correlation between what you have tied on to the end of your line and what you catch.

Suber, I'll be wearing mine come Saturday.

What you guys fail to realize is it doesn't matter what you use if you have confidence in the bait. If I don't use a bait for a particular reason, its not a personal attack on anyones manhood, its because I choose not to use it. I can't understand why anyone would care. Please understand that as long as you are within the law, you can use whatever you want to catch whatever you want and keep whatever you catch. Don't get hung up on what other people think. Life is too short. I've used gulp a couple of times, and honestly I caught more trash fish than anything and I just can't afford them. I can be very happy catching 20 fish on one Gotcha Glow grub. I promise I won't get upset if you don't use them because they don't match your boat's color scheme.

I like debate, but rolling around in the grass isn't necessary...Okay...Please tone it down and don't tell someone their full of shit, even if they are...respect one another's opinion even if you don't like it.

You answered you own reason for using it.

I don't use it because I don't think it provides any edge other than self confidence...If you think the smell emulates shrimp, then buy some shrimp and smell it and let me know if gulp smells like shrimp, maybe rotten shrimp.

BTW Redfish Pros that you see on youtube and television are paid to sell it...I'll sell tampax if they cut me a check.
