NFGFC REDFISH TOURNAMENT 2-9-8
Butch and I had a game plan for a month after looking at the tide forecast for 2-9-8.
We figured there would be little water from St. Marks east. So we decided we would go west. We knew there would be plenty of water around Carrabelle no matter the tide forecast.
Launched from CQuarters about dark 30. Went up river to catch a sheepshead. Only got one short one a fresh water catfish a short red and 2 short trout.
Went down the river to a spot we had caught some nice reds a few months ago.
The reds were everywhere. Knee deep water. Pushpoled to get within casting range. Reds move off slowly. Reds move off quickly. No takers. About an hour later the reds start feeding. Tailing reds everywhere. All just out of casting range. Pushpole again. Reds scamper left, right, forward and backwards. They settle down again. A nice red is tailing on a sand spot.Butch fires his secret topwater lure towards him. 3 more come out of nowhere to inhale the lure. Competition is too great. The original tailer turns on it and inhales. The fight is on.
After several long drag screaming runs the 2nd place red is in the cooler.
Could not get any more reds to bite on this flat. We left there to go to a trough between 2 bars to catch the rising tide.
We were certain a nice red would be coming through, since we have caught many nice reds here.
Not a red to be found. However, in the next 1 hour we counted and boated 75 trout. Most were keepers including a 25" and a 23" fat boys.
At one point I personally put 36 trout in the boat on 36 cast and only used 3 GULPS.
Butch and I can not wait for the KEATON trout tournament.
Hope to see all you guys there.
This just too much fun.

Nice trip JT.
I did the same thing with the reds this morning. Once a little ripple hit the water it was on.

Congrats Steve and Butch

Ditto JT......we fished Carrabelle today also. Just about the same report as you guys. Trout, trout, trout all day long. No big reds to speak of for a change. Had so much fun we stayed till dark. With no qualifying reds, we saw no need to take it back to Jerry's. Hope you guys had a great time at the end of the day

Great report Steve. It was nice to see everyone at the weigh-in yesterday. I hope I can fish the Keaton tournament.
Re: NFGFC REDFISH TOURNAMENT 2-9-8
Y'all done good. Only takes one in a redfish tournament.
What was I supposed to do today?

If I had done that there would be no need to post it.rocket wrote:That made me do a double take...I thought it said you you put a 36" trout in the boatJumptrout51 wrote:At one point I personally put 36 trout in the boat on 36 cast and only used 3 GULPS.
Everyone could have heard me all the way from Carrabelle.
