2.10.2008 Spring Creek

Post by boggob »

Paid the fee and launched the boat without even getting the trailer wet because there was no water! Made an attempt to go in the creek but it was too low and too windy - too much fighting - fighting the wind, fighting the boat, fighting the mud so we decided to go out into the Oyster Bay. Same problem there except instead of mud, it was unmarked crab traps and oyster bars. After about an hour of the wind whipping us around with no place to hide, we decided to get out of there, stopped by the store, grabbed some beer and eats, and went to Newport. Same situation at Newport as far as the landing was concerned. There was only about 4-6 in of water before the ramp dropped-off. One fellow drove up in his car, which was also his boat. He said there was too little water for him to launch (his car). It was pretty neat looking but didn't look like it was worth his investment.

Anyway, out on the water it was NICE and OUT OF THE WIND! Got to relax and take it easy. We got skunked but it wasn't as bad as it would have been if we had stayed at Spring Creek and fought all of the elements. Wait. I take it back, I caught a little bream on a baby chug-bug.

Saw a couple that launched ahead of us at Spring Creek at a traffic light on the way back to town. They asked how many reds we caught. I laughed and said none! We only got 1 Bream! Told them it was too windy out there for me so we went to Newport. They said they caught a few Sheep-head.

Dang wind! Most times I'd rather fish in almost no water than those blasted high winds - course the high winds always wanna be out of the north around here and blow the water out too. Sounds like your day was like ours, only you one-up'd us by 1 bream. It'll get better. Weather will be improving soon....hopefully

Thanks for the report
