This is the official response from the Refuge when I possed the question of fishing at night.
Good Afternoon Mr. Keels:

Vehicles are not allowed to be on the refuge overnight even for late night fishing. Our gate hours are currently 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. so if you are out on the water fishing , you will need to get back in and move your car by 7. If you have any further quetions, please give us a call at 850-925-6121.

Cindy Ball
Refuge Secretary
So, it looks like we need to find another launch point.

Well, I've been in there well after dark as well and I have never had a problem. That's why I said the "OFFICIAL" response.

That's not what the Ranger told me when I asked if I could fish at night and leave my truck there. He said they just liked to know so they weren't searching for someone who was just out fishing. That's the whole reason for an electronic gate that opens from the inside. I think Refuge lady needs to talk to someone who knows............

By the way, I called her to see if I got the same answer. Yep, you can't leave your vehicle in the refuge past closing time. She's an idiot, and she and the ranger don't operate by the same rules. I guess that's good for us though.

That is what I have been told too Chris. I think we should try it and if someone says something, chances are we'll be told not to do it again.

I've nite-fished there on two ocassions. Both times, I talked to the Ranger before I put in and told him what I was doing. He said good luck. He also said when you get ready to leave, pull up to the gate and it will open.

I regret that I will not be able to join you fine nocturnal gentlemen. Just found out that the flag football team I coach will play in the end of year tournament on Monday night. As beautiful as it is out tonight, and my mind wandering to looking at the moonlight shimmering off of the moderate chop - I must do what I committed myself to do. I cannot let these young men down.

Maybe next month? I look forward to meeting you face to face sometime.
