St. Marks 2-16

Post by Redfish Jim »

Left the fort around 11:30. Into the East River and fished a creek that runs into it. Saw at least 50 sheepshead. All of them panicked and clearing out of the area as fast as they could. Never seen them bunched up like that before. Caught a couple of nice trout. 0ne was a real beauty I'm guessing would have been 25". Didn't pull her out of the water to measure but I'm pretty good at eyeballin' them. Didn't see or catch a redfish.

Out to 20' to check crab traps and got a really good mess of claws :lick: Also caught 3 undersized sea bass. The water was as clear as I've ever seen. I could see my jig on the bottom in 25' but didn't see any fish or other signs of life except for the three small fish I caught. There are literally miles and miles of beautiful, natural bottom out from St. Marks. I can't wait for things to pick up out there again.
