Weather Question

Hi Everyone,

I have a small 14 ft jonboat with a little 2-stroke 9.9 on it and I like to go out on the flats off of St. Marks. I'm new at this and have been hesitant to go out if the report for inland waters is 'choppy'. But I have noticed that if I get out early enough I can get a good couple hours in before it really picks up.

I really have an itch to get out there tomorrow morning, but I don't want to be an idiot about this.

Anyone got any advice for me?

Yes you should go....If its blowing and you don't feel safe..Don't go..I have driven from Moultrie to Econfina..put in ran to the mouth...turned around and went home.

On the flip side..I have put in at Skipper Bay in a jon boat..slick as glass..Fished over to the backside of Piney....Wind picked up and it started white capping..Not fun in a 14' jon boat with a trolling motor..thought my buddy was going to stroke on me.....

I'd rather go and come back..than not go..then look at the weather bouy online and say ah chit, why didn't I go.....

Good advise all around. NE wind tells me that the bars around the east river will be protected. The other issue not raised yet is the evil -9 low at 8:30 in the morning. Add NE wind and it will be a surreal looking place. I'd say the situation adds up to ideal in a jon boat (or kayak!). You will need to have a push pole of some kind in there.

Good points, all. That low in the a.m. rises to a nice high at 2:00. Mid-day reds cruising the bars. See ya out there!!
