U.K. LURE FISHING

Post by Wadey »

I have had my first lure fishing outing since I returned home, the venue was the Cambridgeshire fenland drains, these are a series of man made canals/drainage ditches that were dug many, many years ago by Dutch immigrants/settlers to drain the fertile lands for arable farming, these waters are almost featureless, except for the odd bridges that cross them, they are fertile waters that hold a good head of fish of various species, our target species would be Pike.
The day started for me at 4:15 am with a 3 hour drive North in the frosty cold dark, I arrived as the light broke to meet my fishing buddy Sharky, we have fished together on several occasions in the past 2 years, the last time was our recent stay on Alligator Point, the first drain we tried was in full flood and the water had broken the banks and spilled into the adjoining fields, we studied a local map and chose a drain some 20 minutes drive away, the banks were steep and the fishing from them was not the most comfortable you would wish for , but by the end of the day I had landed 3 small pike, my fishing buddy had 8 pike, 1 Zander[walleye to you guys] and a magnificent 42inch specimen shown below. It's good to be home but I still can't wait to fish the Big Bend waters again soon.

Thats a nice fish. If only these guys knew all the hoops you have to jump through to fish in Europe, they would come to appreciate how good they have it here.

That's a big fish. And given the conditions, it was hard earned.
