Aucilla 3-1-08 More JTB Tournament

Post by jsuber »

Showboat and myself checked in at JB&T for the third Redfish tournament of the year. Stood around and shot the bull for a little while with the other participants and we cut out for the Aucilla River. Water was just right to launch in and we headed out the River. About Three minutes into that we had flashbacks of “Apocalypse Now”

as something came up from the rear in what looked like a low flying helicopter. That is if helicopter had stakeout poles attached to the back. With all those lights on I was beginning to think that Showboat had a CIA job and was about to be lifted off the boat. Turns out it was just Casey and Skip and they blasted on past with what must have been a force field around their prop as they blew by.

With me hanging on to the front of the boat (For Ballast) in the cold wind and prevailing seas we headed out to sea to get water deep enough to run in.

If any of you were wondering why the winds kept changing direction, it was because we were changing direction in the boat and we were being pushed in the face all day long.

We saw Otto on the water and hundreds of other boats, but the rest of the boats we saw had GA on the side. It seems there was an exodus from Georgia this weekend and they were all at the Aucilla. We were way back in a small creek, and low and behold a 20 boat with a 115 and a nice trolling motor that has never been and never will be used eased up on us with all of the stealth of an Airboat “without” a muffler.

I was able to pull a red out from the front of their boat, that had to be scared and wanted me to pull it out of the way of the mean boat. We managed to pull twenty or so mostly small Reds and two that could at least give us a small air of respectability at the weigh-in. We fished the flats til the water got deeper and then we moved up into the creeks. We used Capt Mike Spoons for all of our catches. We pulled out 4th place with just under 7 lbs and Casey and Skip got 3rd, Little Otto got 2nd and two guys fishing Shellpoint area pulled out 1st with two nice fish.

Good job everyone, and it was a fun day.

9 boats particpated. There were a lot of boats on the water but probably be more today so I'm working. Showboat did not get a kiss. Miss Showboat would he getting jealous and the dog would have bit me (They were both at weigh-in). Besides, he would never fall for that move twice.

I liked the report...I second the tux idea. You have a special outfit for trout? It sounds like we're all gonna need to wear it next Saturday...

Thanks for posting Jeff. Another enjoyable day on the water...sorry we couldn't find the larger fish again Sat.

When I returned home I did find a couple pretty good dings in the skeg, nothing major, but I anticipate paying Mr. Porter a vist shortly after the Keaton tourney...
