Carrabelle- Fishing some new water...

Post by bman »

I showed one of the Condos down at Carrabelle this afternoon and thought I should haul the boat down and try for some reds and trout.
See: http://www.bigbendfishing.net/phpBB3/vi ... =7&t=17299
Dad road with me to met the family looking at the condo and then dad and I got on the water about 4pm.

I have not fished inshore there since one time in High school... Thats been a few years ago.
The water was high the entire time we were there, only a small drop in the tide before it turned this afternoon.
We started trying for Reds on some flooded mud flats...
Just as we got back into some good looking shore line I got a nice hit-- the red chased the bait but did not take it.
Moments later the trolling motor sheared its pin... probably been close to broken for a while but a sand bar finished the job.

Dad was ready to call it quits but I had a hole I noticed on the chart that was a short run away.
We pulled up to a drop off the flats and first cast I had a trout on!

We proceeded to catch close to 40... most were shorts but we came home with 5 keepers
All were caught on a pearl swim tail on a plain jig head... no cajun thunder.
If we had gotten there earlier I have no doubt we would have caught a limit of keepers.
No big fish but enough to fry tomorrow night. :lick:

Oh yea- 4 of the keepers were mine :smt045
