We launched anyhow, and decided to just putter out to the flats.....

Just before we got to the last bend in the river, we decided to see if there were any trout around. We made a few casts and caught 2 shorts right at 15". 2 other boats had come by, so we decided to head on out ourselves.
We went east towards Rock Island and set up a drift. Nothing. Decided to head into a creek mouth near Hickory Mounds and only managed 1 short trout on a gold spoon and 1 short off a SWA. We decided to try back out on the flats in a little deeper water. Nothing.
We ran west back towards Aucilla to a favorite spot and found a few short reds....

With no keeper trout or reds, we decided to head back to the river. We stopped off back where we started the morning and first cast....BAMMM.....18" trout. Next cast, double hook-up. We sat in this spot for the next 45 minutes till we had our 2 man limit. Didn't get any pics because we were having to much fun with the trout to worry about the camera

Great day on the water (weather wise) and finished up great with a nice limit of trout

Water temp averaged 58-64. Fished from 2 - 6 ft. on the flats and caught nothing. Live shrimp only produced pinfish. Various soft jerkbaits fished with a jighead along the bottom produced all of our keeper fish.
