Keaton 3/9/08

Post by Eerman »

Picked Tin Can up this morning and headed to Keaton to do a little exploring. We've seen that Reel Slow has been having all the fun and we couldn't have that. Got to the ramp...a little messy from all the storm damage but very doable. Putter out the canal, only hit a few lawn chairs, no harm done. Motored to the first spot and almost immediately started seeing fish. Unfortunately, they were very spooky fish. Fortunately, there were alot of them. We fought the wind and tide to get in skinny. There were tails waving to us everywhere :smt007 . Still had trouble getting them to eat. I was up front and said, "look right in front of me". Nice little red not 15 feet from the boat, oblivious to us right beside him. I tossed a little topwater about 3 feet from him and he turned...I let it sit...he tried to be sneaky and crept up behind it and stopped. I gave it the smallest twitch I could and he absolutely destroyed it. One of the best bites I've every seen. He put up a little fight and I hauled him aboard.

Nice 25 incher. Thought that was a sign of things to come but the fish stayed spooky. I landed one more 20 incher. John had a nice one straighten a hook on him. I don't know where he finds those crappy hooks.  We decided we maybe should try to find some trout for the tournament. We mosey around and continue to see a few fish, all very spooky. A few trout, mostly reds. John gets his lure sucked off the top by a nice one and he pulls this 20 incher in the boat. Thing looked like a football he was so fat.

Drifted a little while longer and decided it was time to head home. Did note that the water temp changed from 53 in the moring to over 60 when we left. Saw a ton of fish. Wish we could have hooked a few more but I'll take it anytime.

RS, there is a mobile home in one of the side canals. There is debris in the canal from the public ramp to the pier, but it's passable.

It's always a pleasure to spend a day on the water with you, Eman. Even if you did set me up with a bait with faulty hooks so I'd lose the biggest fish of the day. Thanks for the ride.
