Keaton 3/21 scouting 3/22 tournament

Post by Jumptrout51 »

Friday 3/21
Butch and I got to Keaton about 10:30 a.m. We launched from the public ramp and headed out going North. We spent the next 4 hours idling to Spring Warrior. We were in close looking for fish and likely fishing spots such as rocks, bars, sand holes etc.
We found nothing. The grass is mostly dead in close and little if any structure.
Once we got closer to Yates Creek things started looking much better.
We started fishing about 2 p.m.
In the next 2 hours we caught several trout with 4 keepers from 17-23.
These fish came off flat rocks and sand holes.
We headed back in about 5:30 to get ready for the NFGFC Fish Fry at the Keaton Motel.
When we got there and went into our room we found someone had been sleeping in our bed. The Big Bad Behavior Bear had all his crap strewn about OUR motel room.
After a slight fright of NOW HERE ARE WE GOING TO SLEEP, the Motel folks moved us to room #3.(The one BB was supposed to have in the first place.)
The cookers were assembled and fired up. The BassBoyz cleaned and prepped the fish.
Bow'd Up brought coleslaw, french fries,BB brought Rabbit sausage and venison sausage. Before long everthing hit the grease and the coals.
Everyone was having a great time hanging out in the parking lot BSing and planning Saturdays trip.
Butch was put in charge of the deep fry cooker brought by Bow'd Up. Man, that is one nice fry pot.Shortly we all had fresh fried fish, french fries, cole slaw and hush puppies. There was plenty of cool pop to wash it all down. What a fun time. We gotta do it again.
After dinner it was off to bed.
SATURDAY 3/22
Up at 5:30 a.m. Did not want to be late for the check in. We had to go 75 feet in the dark to get there.
TINCAN was already set up at the fish cleaning table to take names. He greeted everyone with his usual effervescent smile as he took their money.
It was a brisk cool wind blowing from the N.E. as we stood around visiting and waiting for everyone to sign in. Everyone was given a Captains bag provided by SEATOW. The bags contained measuring tapes drink cuzzies, lures from CAPTAIN MIKES, MIRROLURE, BITE A BAIT, SALTWATER ASSASSIN, beef jerky and so on. All bags had different items. The bags were well received.
As soon as you could begin to see, TINCAN annouced blastoff.
22 NFGFC boats headed out the canal anticipating record stringers. As each boat settled down on their secret fishing holes it got really cold. Overcast skies and a steady North wing made it uncomfortable. The tide was falling and the bite was slow. About half the group fished the Spring Warrior Yates Creek area. These folks weighed in from 1-4 fish that took all day to catch. A couple boats went further North to Eaglenest Creek and did better weight wise. The quantity still was not there.
Butch and I weighed in only 2 fish,although nice ones, a 19 3/4 and a 23.
The weigh in was a fun time. Larry Cobb set up a table full of cold cuts, bread and sliced cake for a make your own sandwich buffet.
A special prize was offered by SEATOW. The largest trout caught got $100.00 cash prize if the NFGFC member belonged to SEATOW. Thank you Captain Singletary. CASEYCOOK won the $100 prize with his biggest trout. CASEY is a SEATOW member.
Speaking of winning prizes, Casey also won a 7 foot FALCON baitcaster rod. I think this makes 4 FALCON rods Casey has won. Everyone was given a ticket for other merchandise donated by ADVANTAGE MARINE,NEMIRELURES,MIRROLURE,TALLAHASSEE MARINE CENTER,HOGYLURES,POLAR BEAR COOLERS,ATTWOOD MARINE.

PLEASE SHOP WITH ALL THE NFGFC SPONSORS AND BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.

The $100 BADCOCK and MORE Mystery fish prize rolls over to $200. NO ONE caught a hard head catfish. Next months BADCOCK and MORE MYSTERY FISH to be determined.
Thanks to TINCAN for another fun tournament.

Next tournament is APRIL 5. Sign in at Jerrys Bait and Tackle by 6:30 a.m. Fish anywhere you like.

Dangit! We didn't get no goodie bags at sign-in, and found out when we got our first maybe-a-keeper-maybe-not-a-keeper trout that we left all 3 measuring tapes in the truck  We weighed in 3 but threw back 2 or 3 that were close, lacking a way to measure for sure. We measured the rest of our fish with a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper :smt005
Mookbait! At least 401 times better than live bait!

The goodie bags had a SeaTow tape measure in them.

I will see that you and MOJO get one at the next meeting April 3. You can wear the SEATOW tapes around your heads like a visor.

Good to see ya'll. And by the way, I was put in that room by the guys at the marina. They told me that was my room, you guys were supposed to be in 3 :-D . Good to meet Butch, hard to believe a fella that cool could be your brother :smt005 . Had a great time and I really look forward to the next cookout. The trout fishing was tough on us too. Too bad it wasnt a red tourney, cause we got in them good. Dang hard to leave them reds to go hunt trout. And for the record, you guys patronize Keaton Beach Marina every time you get a chance. They have really cleaned up the rooms since the last time I stayed there and the service from the folks that own it is first class for a fish camp. Oh yea, and I told you Id be glad to share that room with ya'll just to see you two sleep in that full size bed together!!! ;-) Oh and also for the record, TC hurt my feelings at the weigh in :smt009 . He thought I was actually trying to pull something on him when I weighed in my one trout. Just for the future record TC, Bow'd Up fishes on Bow'd Ups boat, BB fishes on Bad Behavior ;-) , Ill feed you a line of shiot any day of the week but never about money!!!!!

Wasn't intending to hurt your feelings. Just a lot to keep up with, and, lately, I'm easily confused. :-?

I'll try to keep it straight next time.
What was I supposed to do today?
