Encofina 3/28

Post by sundown »

First trip to the flats this year..Been covered up with work but decided to take a day and unwind.
Got the ramp about 7 this morning..Several boats already out but plenty of water to navigate in..First creek we went in picked up two nice trout, one on a gold spoon the other on a redfish magic..Water was beautiful.only thing, no reds !
Stayed around creek mouth till falling water ran us out and picked up two more trout all 16-18 inch fish..About 10:30 decided to run out to deep water and harass the black bass and lizard fish.. Always try to have some trolling gear in boat...
We put the stretches down at about 17 ft and kept going....First 45 minutes had one bump..Then saw a large center console coming straight down on us....The man....12 miles out ? Checked our licences and safety gear...Found our flares were expired...by a couple years..He was very nice and professional..gave us a warning..appreciated that to no end !
We started back trolling and in the next couple hours put two gags in the boat..one was short , one 23"....Then no more hits or nothing..
Headed back inshore to try to finish a limit of trout..Which we did..nothing spectacular but good fish..all under 20"..Caught quite a few shorts..most of the fish on a free lined SWA under a cork... Candy Corn was the color .Water temp got up to 72 later in afternoon ..Most fish caught in about 4 ' of water..Also had a shark about 5-6 ' come across the bow of the boat..surprised to see it in the cooler water...Wind wasn't a factor till about 3 and not bad then..All in all a fine day......
Also saw quite a few pods of bait during the day with something busting em..looked like mackerel although we didn't catch one..
