Keaton 3.30.08

Post by Redfin »

Me and a buddy fished the Relay tournament at Keaton yesterday. We were sitting on our spot at 7am ready to go. First fish, a 23 inch trout on a Top Dog 5 cast later. Then the weekend warriors began to show up.. pulled right up to the bar we were on, 20 yards from us, motor half outta the water, loud as hell.. so no more trout after that. Fished inshore till lunch with not much to show for it, then hit a sheepshead spot where we boated 8 on shrimp. Biggest at 3.66, which was almost good enough for 2nd place and $300 till some guy weighed in a 5lb'er withh 2 minutes ot go.. oh well...

We also had a double hook up on a couple of cobia. Mine went for 25 inches while my friends was 1 1/2" short from hittin the ice. At least they are starting to show up!

Eneded iwth a mixed bag....
Total for the day:
5 trout to 23"
2 cobia
8 sheepshead
3 short grouper
3 Spanish
and a lone pin fish on a red and white top dog!

Great trip Redfin

Any time you have nice weather like we did for the majority of this weekend, they're gonna be out in numbers. We were repositioning the boat in idle speed for a 2nd drift on Cobb Rocks Saturday and had someone in a jon boat type boat with a mudbuddy accelerate to get in front of us then cut the motor about 10 feet from our bow just as we were getting in position. I ended up hitting reverse for a second to put a little more distance between us and about 90 seconds in to it a second boat came flying up on our starboard side and started the same drift maybe 100 feet from us, thus pretty much blocking us from casting 2 directions from the boat. We decided to abort that area within about 5 minutes, and I took extra special care to make our hole shot out of there as slow and loud as possible, and in a circle...you know...to make sure I didn't hit anyone...
Mookbait! At least 401 times better than live bait!
