Trout on topwater lures

I'd like to try to catch some trout on topwater lures -- does anyone have any recommendations and how-to tips?

Any one have success with trout on a flyrod?

What kind of spinning gear might work?

I've had them strike at my Cajun Thunders, so I'd like to give it a try.

Still learning my way around the flats -- any advice and guidance is appreciated.

Get yourself a few MIRROLURE She Dog---Top Dog lures- a Zara Spook and a Skitterwalk. Then cast and walk the dog and catch. If they short strike switch over to a MIRROLIP or Bite a Bait or Renegade or Redfin.

Top Dogs, Popa Dogs, She Dogs and the like are good choices to start with. As far as colors go I like Chartuerse and bone combinations.

Spinning ? I'd go with the equivalent of a Stradic 4000 loaded with good 12 lb test and bout 20" of 20lb test flurocarbon leader..Sling it just as far as you can from the boat toward shallow water and count to 20..then twitch it twice. Wait 10 seconds and then walk the dog on back, stopping it occasionally..Also use a good loop knot on the leader...

Catch 2000 floaters, Papa dogs safe color black back, gold sides, orange belly. skitterwalks are good too. Stick around kid, there are some good fishermen on this site. Oh and glad tohave you aboard!! Ask any question you want , you'll probably get a good answer( and 20 or 30 smartazzez) but at least one good answer!!! Be sure and tell us your first story involving a topwater plug flying a foot out of the water and getting smashed by another trout when it lands. It aint true unless you got pics!!

I have had my (limited) topwater success in relativley low light conditions and relatively calm water.

The more comotion on the water : the more noise I think the TW should make.

So if its glass calm I throw one without a rattle (like a high roller) but if there is a little chop I throw a she dog which has a loud rattle. I guess a top dog would be in the mid-range as far as noise goes.

I use baitcasters and walk the dog. Back when I threw 110% spinning I used a chug bug because I thought it was the best 'spinning gear topwater'.

I don't know how much difference the color makes. I have had luck on both chrome and black.

I would go with Catch 2000,*Dog lure from Mirrolure, and a zara super spook in bone color.

I've had my best luck with Skitter walks in silver mullet and bone colors.

If you have never walked a topwater plug I would start with a chartruese ChugBug they always catch fish but are easier to work and you still get the top water action.

I started using Sufix Performance braid and it has really given my top water lures and suspending lures a lot more action. Not that I catch that many fish but they look pretty coming through the water.
