Georgia fishermen
Write, call, email.......just contact your elected representatives. I just found out that due to the questionable intelligence of our elected officials the agreement between Georgia & Florida to honor the senior citizens license of either state will end June 30 2008. Georgia decided to end the agreement. My dad has purchased license in both states as long as I can remember. He is now 67 years old & due to loosing a lung to cancer when he turned 64 & being treated for prostate cancer when he turned 65, he just can't afford the license to fish at lake Talquin. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not asking for a pity party. As long as I am able to work, he can fish anywhere he wants to go & I'll foot the bill. That's the least I can do. He can use my truck, boat & whatever else I have that he needs whenever he chooses.
I just think it's a sad day that politicians sacrifice the folks that made this country what it is over individual interests. I understand Florida needs water that falls in the lakes & streams in Georgia but this just ain't right. The folks affected by this "agreement change" looked after us when we couldn't look after ourselves and I think this is a heck of a way to show them respect for the contributions they have made to the fishing industry & our natural resources.
I'm finished ranting now. Ya'll have a good day.
Tight lines to all.

Let’s begin with bad news. First, as of September this year, Georgia and Florida will not honor 65 fishermen in each others state. That slaps me rite in the face, as I love to fly fish Crooked River in the summer. Crooked River is a tidel river between the Oklocknee and Carabell Rivers. It runs 6 hours one way and 6 hours the other and if full of big ole Red Bellies, Stumpknockers and Shellcrackers. Then down river from the Talquin Dam is some fine fine fly fishen and Beetle Spin for Bream. So be it, it’s done done.

Sorry fellas, I think its sheety too. Its a damn shame when we forget our primary responsiblities because of politics. My rule has always been "Theres always two folks you always look after, those who looked after you and those who are going to." Folks when we stop taking care of the kids and elderly, we got trouble. Crying shame!!

Re: Georgia fishermen
As I understand it, Florida would not let the licenses be reciprocal for saltwater in Florida, but demanded that a Florida license be good for saltwater fishing in Georgia. Another screw job by Florida and then we get posts like this blaming it on Georgia. Not cool!
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Re: Georgia fishermen
Thats the way I understood it too MD. Still a shame that the elderly have to pay for it , on both sides of the border!! I say less than 12 and over 65 shouldnt have to be licensed, maybe permited but not a paid license. Just my .02. I dont know why people from Florida want to come to Ga to hunt anyway, I see just as many good deer in woods and water as there are in GON. If Florida hunters used their resources to grow and hunt deer rather than travel several hours to spend their money in GA, you guys could probably grow some real decent deer. Im not saying you guys arent more than welcome here, I dont mind at all and most of the florida hunters i know are fine folks. I just know if the Georgia coast was closer than the florida coast, thats where id be fishin! With gas and everything as expensive as it is, if I could catch a redfish somewhere between Adel and Cairo , GA, Ya'll wouldnt ever see my azz in anywhere around the land from Taylor to Franklin county!! I probably dont know all the factors my florida friends have to face but Its got to be cheaper to hunt them local. I know some guys from florida that paid $26.00 / acre for a 1000 acre lease. You do the math, thats a hell of a down payment on a hunting tract!!MudDucker wrote:As I understand it, Florida would not let the licenses be reciprocal for saltwater in Florida, but demanded that a Florida license be good for saltwater fishing in Georgia. Re: Georgia fishermen
Will this affect hunting licenses as well?
Re: Georgia fishermen
Probably just some payback for all the oysterman that are now draining the states welfare system because Georgia put a stranglehold on all the water because they can't manage 3 monkeys and a football........................just sayin!!
Re: Georgia fishermen
Us Georgia folks that spend so much time and money in Taylor County FL DESERVE an exception!
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: Georgia fishermen
Simple bureacracy. Politicians costing the simple man mucho dinero. By the way, 49.50 plus fees on the annual saltwater license is what I think I paid this year. I actually think the state govs are in kahoots with one another. They are the ones that get the extra income while the sportsmen from either state argue about blame!! I say fog 'em. Lets just fish and hunt the best we can!!TroutTrent wrote:It's not the cost of land that sucks it the cost of the licenses that Georgia charges.
