Oyster Bay & Spring Creek... 4-17-08

Post by Tail Chaser »

:smt006

I've been lurking for quite awhile on here and figured it is time to actually contribute to this great fishing forum for our area

It was through this site that I fortunate to find my current fishing boat, thanks to Talltails  Me and my buddy are enjoying every second we can get out and find those reds. We usually fish out of the lighthouse (East River, Stoney Bayou & Rock Garden areas), but today we both had the opportunity to take off of work and decided to try out Oyster Bay for the first time. We decided to wait for it to warm up this morning and fished the falling tide from 1 to 6 this afternoon and had perfect weather.

Being our first time at Oyster Bay we decided to start drifting around some of the islands and oyster bars out in the middle, but only got a few bites so after a couple hours we moved into Spring Creek. We went pretty far up the creek just checking out the scenery, when it started to get real narrow and shallow so we decided that was a good place to start fishing out from and a few casts later I get this 17" Redfish on a Cajun Thunder spinner. Image
A couple hundred yards on down I made another cast and got this beautiful 25", 5-1/2 lb, 12 spot Redfish.

The action died down after that so we moved out to one of the oyster bars and found a real nice cut with a lot of moving water, so we got out on one of the bars and fish it for awhile, but only found fish with real sharp teeth and now realize I need to bring some wire leader along from now on  and left there around 6 to head on home.

Another great day on the water :-D

Welcome to the neighborhood and nice job representing people who fish out of boats.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

 neither, just trying to protect my skin. I burn rather easy and yesterday was a day where I needed all the protection I could get. I am still new with taking fishing pictures and am always concerned with getting the fish back in the water as fast as possible. Next time I'll try to remember to show my ugly mug :-D

Thanks Lit, I have been amazed at how well you do at kayak fishing around these parts and some of the beauties you have pulled into your yak. I also fish out of my yak now and then, but have had very little success. I blame the boat

Welcome aboard. Great report thanks for sharing. BTW I used a "face sock" today for the first time. I'll be using one from now on.
