Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
When I was travelling a lot what we did was everybody put "x" amount into the pot and we used that for fuel. When that ran out we did it again.
I guess in the case of running a boat,
(A) you could fill it up before hand and again after and split the difference amongst everybody.
(B) Or if the party is agreeable to it split the cost of the first fill up. Either way its as close to fair as I think you'll find.
(C) Start fishing with folks what got money (BB, JT, TC, Chalk, etc.....) and let them foot the bill for the whole nine yards.
I hope this helps a little.

Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
I haven't been in salt water in over 6 months due to high gas prices. If it keeps going, i guess i'm gonna have a boat for sale...

I'd rather be lucky than good.

Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
Me too. Hasn't happened much but I figure I was going fishing anyway and I was going to spend the money anyway. As a matter of fact I filled someone on this forum boat up last year and haven't seen hide nor hair since. I guess it was money well spent.BAD BEHAVIOR wrote:I usually by all the gas and diesel and hope like hell somebody offers me some money back!!Hit-n-Miss wrote:The question is how do you guys divi up costs when you go fishing?

Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
I'm going fishing with or without you...I don't want your gas money, I don't ask people to fish with me to help pay, I ask for the fellowship and time spent on the water.
The higher the gas, the less dumb dumbs at the ramp and in the water...the grass will regrow, the fish will spawn and the fishery will be a better place. Come on $5.00 a gallon

Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
many folks spend more money on beer, cigs, gulp, $8 lunches and just plain pizzin away gas driving 70mph everywhere they go, than on gas for fishin. I dont and wont ask anybody to give me gas money on a fishing trip, I will however take a greasy cheese burger/fries and a few cold beers when we get back in. Only if offered of course

Re: GAS PRICES!!!!!
OK...got my fire extinguisher set'n next to me to put out the flames, so here goes. The concept of eliminating "dumb" "dumbs" through price rationing at the gas pump bothers me just a bit. That would imply that intelligence is directly proportional to the amount of income one has. It's been my experience that some of the folks who can "go and blow" regardless of the price of gas are the one's who we'd be best served by not having them on the water with us.
With respect to sharing the cost of gas or expecting that someone should be willing to offer to share costs, I certainly would not want those folks to feel like they are any less worthy as a fishing partner. There have been times in the past 2-3 years when I've taken someone fishing and then refused their offer of gas money. There have also been times when it was offered and I accepted. I've never ask for it or required it. It's a mark of good character (imo) to offer even if you believe it not to be necessary. There are some partners who have a relationship and understanding that would not need such an offer. It's much the same way with tournament registration fees. The boat owner probably would be fishing regardless so they would still be paying the registration fee. However, I will always offer to split the fees if I'm on someone else's boat. You say that's different than gas? I don't believe it is.
An awful lot of us spend more money on "things" than we should. But, speaking for myself, I spend $50 every time I fill up the gas tank on my vehicle and closer to $60 when I fill up the boat. Can't say I spend $50 to $60 dollars on beer, cigs, gulp or $8 lunches. I do however drive 70mph where legal and I do love a good greasy cheese burger ...but only with onion!
Lot's of good folks on this forum. Lot's of them struggl'n with gas prices. It bothers me when we post stuff that makes a bad situation for some just seem OK. Got to go now...I smell some smoke. GAS PRICES ARE SILLY HIGH!
