Goose Creek

Post by zinhead »

Hello All,
This is my first posting on this site that I just discovered - it's very well laid out and I think it compares favorably to the great FCKA site started by Jeff Suber - which, by the way, is how I learned of yours.
I'm wondering if anyone has recent experiences (last couple weeks) at wakulla beach - goose creek?
Thanks and GLTA.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Good learnin around here.
W-Beach?
Athestically it's a great kayak spot but I don't give it much count for fish.
Others will disagree but I have fished it a lot & it's real hit or miss for me.
I like to catch fish.
I do suggest that you search prior years for Wakulla Beach posts, particularly April.
I did one years back that included a detailed map of a complete circuit around Patty's Island.
Note: it wouldn't have been a complete circuit if I'd had a good reason to stay any particular place.

Hit or miss area like Lit said it can hold really good fish but sometimes one can go and the fish are few and far between.

At Wakulla beach if you go east, then the fish will be on the west end. If you go west, then the fish will be on the east end. The secret is to pretend you're going one direction, and then all of a sudden circle around and head the other. This is an effective trick to play on the fish. :-D
Truthfully though, I've always found that area better in the early fall.

I second that, hit or miss. I've caught big trout, macks, and reds there but mostly big skunks. I hear some people have pretty good luck with flounder. Sheppard Creek/ spring is pretty cool for sightseeing. WB is close when you really need to scratch that itch but can't sneak off too far.

:smt006 Welcome Zin! I agree with the others on "hit & miss" and the area being a better "fall" place to fish - besides the dog flies will puncture you mindlessly there right now! Read Casey Cook's and my Inshore Aucilla reports and go there. Have fun, dude, and keep us updated on your trips, please. Come join our North Florida Gulf Fishing Club (NFGFC) and get in on the monthly meetings - you won't be sorry. If you are a fly fisherman, come join our Florida Big Bend Flyfishers club (FBBF)- it puts you into another realm of fishing using the "long rods". Jeff Suber is a class act and a great shallow water angler - you were correct to follow his advice. Again, welcome to our friendly forum, for sure.

I fished there a couple of times this spring with very little luck. buddy told we there was trout moving around down there but I havent seen it. there is definitely plenty of other spots not much further then wakulla beach where id rather scratch my itch at.

A Hearty Thank You to all who took the time to send along some tips... :D

Not sure when I'll be able to get out and use them, but I'll surely report back after I do!
Taking the wife (and my 3 and 7 weights) to Bryson City NC for the week to engage those "other" trout...
