TeamSeatrout Sunday 4-27

Post by Jumptrout51 »

Fishing TeamSeatrout on Sunday.
Anyone have suggestions on where to find some good trout?
All I need is 5 with 2 at 5 pounds each. The other 3 can be anywhere from 19.5 to 19 7/8 inches long.

St. Marks lighthouse. Wait till about 9:00 am to launch. Throw Cajun Thunders with a two foot wire leader. Tip with shrimp.

You once told me you had plenty of spots...what happened to those?

I would go east or west and then fish south :-D

JT - Go west from the channel a mile or two off from Little Pass. There will be about 9 Shell Island rental boats. Right in the middle of those is an excellent spot; throw out Gulp on Cajun Thunder.
Mookbait! At least 401 times better than live bait!

Well...against everyones advice my partner and I launched from Econfina at 6:30 this morning. A quick trip around Rock Island and a beeline toward Spring Warrior. Came off plane and idled in toward shore. The water was black as yesterdays coffee.
See some small mullet working around a rocky point. Troll within casting distance and BAM!! the bite is on. 8 redfish later we move on down to another cove brimming with mullet. A short drift through there we put a nice 4 pound trout in the boat. 3 redfish later we move out and head back towards Rock Island looking for cleaner water. Start working some good looking bars to add to our trout. BAM!! more reds. Water is still black. We move further west and finally find a break in water clarity. BAM BAM!!! more reds.
It is now 12 o'clock. We have 1 trout in the box. We move a couple miles offshore to 6 feet of clear water. We finally get on some trout. A good 22 incher goes in the box. The next four are 16-17 inches and not fat.
Back at JBT for the SeaTrout weigh in we find out we did not do too badly. We had our 5 fish and several boats did not. We had 2 over 20" and several boats did not.
We came in 7th place with 10 pounds 13 ounces.
Jeff Pettis and Bo Raker won 1st with 14 pounds 12 ounces.
2nd went to Casey Cook and John Baygator Wiley at 12 pounds 5 ounces. Casey had Big fish at 5 pounds 3 ounces. 3rd went to Jeff Trent and Keith Cardin with 11 pounds 11 ounces.
4th place went to Mrs. Snatch and Mr. Sniff.
