HANDICAP FISHING

Post by CAPTAIN CHARLIE »

If any of you know of a fisherman/fisherwoman, who is confined to a wheel chair, and couldnt fish from a regurlar boat, I'd like to inmvite you and them to go with me on my 24ft pontoon boat. All the seats have been removed for more room. I fish out of my home at Oyster Bay, (38 miles south of Tallahassee near Shell point), , and I fish the flats, and I catch fish.

No, I don't want any money. I'd just like to get people on the water who otherwise couldn't. I fish several days a week, mostly around the weekends. For me, EVERY DAY IS SATURDAY. So let me know and we'll make arrangements. Lets go fishing.

That is a very kind offer, Captain Charlie. If I come across someone I will direct them your way.

That is indeed a kind offer Captain. I don't know of anyone but you may want to send an e-mail to John McBride. John has coordinated the Hands Helping Anglers event for the past couple of years and probably knows of some folks. Also, keep an eye out for next year's HHA event. John's e-mail address is johnmc@lobbytools.com.

Thanks guys,

I'm sorry I made it sound like wheel chairs only. That's not the case. Anyone handicapped so a hull boat won't work is welcome.
If we can get them down the gang plank to the dock we'll go fishing.

Good thing you are doing there, Captain Charlie.

The State of Florida has mobility impaired hunts available for people, but you don't see much done for fishing.

The Hands Helping Anglers that the other guys mentioned is a great program. From all the reports I heard about, all the anglers had a great time and had a big :D on their faces and couldn't wait to get out again.

Fishing is a great physical activity and is rewarding to someone that has limited mobility, etc.

Well...it's not an original idea and sadly I havn't gotten any calls yet asking to go fishing. But, the offer still stands.
