Destin Surf

Post by Littoral »

LIke an idiot, all the guys with surf boards didn't clue me that the swells would make
it difficult to wade deep enough to fly fish. I did it anyway.
I hadn't fished for nearly two weeks so I really didn't have a choice.
I can now say that fly casting is more difficult underwater.
Sensibility might have sent me back to the beach but I could see schools
of decent fish busting bait just beyond the waves breaking over my head.
If I could just get the line up & haul once I knew could get one.
Eventually I did and caught a Spanish.
Note: catch and release is also difficult underwater.
I felt so proud I stayed for more punishment.
I ended catching 5 very nice Ladyfish, 2 small Spanish, and losing a decent pair of sunglasses.
Four different guys met me on the beach to tell me how entertaining it was.
I won't do it again.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

Ah, not something likely to cross my mind. :smt017

I was staying at Gulf Place and Saturday morning I saw someone out tossing the long rod. It was kind of a jump and cast technique. Very impressive. I went of later in the morning, just with shrimp. There were fish everywhere. I caught ladyfish and jacks until my arm hurt. About 20 minute after I got out of the water, I was drinking beer on the beach and 2, 5-6 ft sharks cruised inside the first bar. The lifeguard and everyone on the beach were freaking out. They would have been in between me and the beach. :( That was the end of my fishing.

So yeah, that was me. Not sure I'd call it "technique" though, but thanks!
A few more reasons, like I said, I won't do it again:
