12-13-03 Spring Creek

Put in at 1pm, tide was perfect. (out by 5:30) A little too much wind to go to the holes outside (wonder how the grouper floatila went) so stayed with the tried and true creek holes. End result, 50 Redfish (located with 20MR MirrOlure suspending) then boated with live shrimp, two nice 20 - 21" specs (both on MirrOlure's), and 5 honken' and I mean honKin' Sheephead (meat fish for the day). Have not fished in Spring Creek since last winter, guess we will go back reel soon. Hope all had a good weekend, glad I got that blackening seasoning....

Hey Gone... I put in about 1:00 too. I A buddy and I put in our kayaks, 1 green & 1 yellow. There were only 5/6 boats around so I'm sure we saw you. We had pretty much the same luck. Did you use anything besides the Mirrolure?

We were the two bundled up redneck looking guys in the jon boat w/ 20 yamaha on it. We didn't see you guys but saw a couple more jon boats. We went out to try some places in the bay but turned around quickly and spent almost all of our time up that small creek where the single house sits just north of the entrance. We didn't have a bottm machine on the boat so I stayed up front and pitched the mirrolure into places I had fished before or looked fishy, then we used shrimp to get down to business. We found all of our fish were between 14 and 17, rare one larger, I know they school or sit up in holes based on size class, least that's what I think but we were having so much fun we just sat pretty much on this one hole. Funny thing, the hole was about 15 meters square, cast outside of that and no action at all. As my buddy said, sure glad you threw that lure up there... what was your expierience?

Agreed, they were all in one spot. If you didn't find it you were outta luck. We were mostly out of our kayaks wading near the "mouth".
I think they were laying on the lee side of structure out of the primary current. In most cases that's an oyster bar and with the rising tide it was the north side.
Two weeks ago I found them holding on the south side of bars on the falling tide -again in the lee.
I didn't use any shrimp but I want to do is target bigger fish with medium to large killifish (mud minnows, chubs, etc.).
We had a great time. ~40 fish but few keepers.
With all this strategy worked I'm trying to get out again soon.

Hey folks. I was at Spring Creek on Saturday, also. Much the same luck (tons of pup reds). Did anyone else see the fly fisherman fall in the water? That had to be cold.

I have never fished Spring Creek but really want to. Any advice? I have a 13-footer and don't know where to put in except at the marina I haven't seen in years that is at the end of the road or so, after you turn left in front of the SC restaurant. Do y'all come in from another direction? Put in somewhere else?

Once I put in at that marina, then what? Head which way?? Are there lots of rocks like Econfina or Aucilla?

Any advice wiil be all I know!

Wish I could help Nolester, but I haven't fished in Spring Creek "just Oyster Bay"

I know that there are a lot of Oyster bars around the mouth, but have never seen any rocks

No problemo! I really don't think too many folks have fished up in there, which is one attraction to me maybe. It is beautiful to look at, but so are a lot of places where I haven't caught fish! I've never been in the water there. Maybe I ought to look at a map!

Nolester, I rode to Spring Creek once to check it out, I was informed the ramp was private, and there was no public access. As a result, I've never fished the area. I think the lack of response to your question is because very few have fished there. If you find out there is public access, I'd like to know.
