Big trout

Post by Sea Spot »

BB and i arrived at icky around 7:30 this morning.Talked to Yellow dog at the ramp and headed out.Set up at our first stop and began throwing top water .We both hooked up with big blues so we packed up and moved in closer.Set up in 2 ft. water and BB started us off with a 19.5 in red.
Image[/img]Image
Minutes later i got mine,a 23 incher.
Image[/img]Image
With our reds in the boat we decided to try some knew grounds for big trout. We found some good bottom and moved in again .BB was working his skitter walk and just as i was saying (we should catch a pig in here)his plug gets hammered ,i mean bloown up .it hits like a trout but rips of drag like a big ole red so at first we're not sure what it was ,then Jay turns him towards the boat and there he is ,a big fat 27.5 inch 6lb. pig of a trout.Jay starts begging for the fish not to come off and i'm thinking please don't let me knock this fish off. Finally after several drag stripping runs Jay pulls him close and i net him and quickly throw him in the boat.We spent the next 10 minutes yelling, and high fiving like a couple of yungins.Image[/img]Image
We hit several more spots and pick up 4 more reds.
Image[/img]Image
We rig up gulp and jerk baits and move out to set up a drift.I get a hit and set the hook and imediately we know we have our second pig of the day a 24.5 incher.Image
We hit a couple more spots with no luck and pack it up and head home to show off our catch.

What a fish Jay,glad i was there to enjoy it with you. .

Wow Keith, What a day!!! Thanks for sharing the memories with me, ranks up there with top trips of all time!! How many times did I say please Jesus please???? Got to tell the story, ya'll forgive me,but I got to! Keith and I had said we were gonna hunt big trout today. We pulled up to to the spot and starting chuckin topwater. Kinda of been a slow morning and Im starting to get discouraged with the topwater. About that time Keith says a pick me up line like a good fishing buddy does and says there ought to be a hog in here. Im scanning the bar and looking as he says this and I ask him, you wreckon that water drops off on the back of that bar?? He says probably and I fire the skitterwalk a long cast to the hole. Twitch, twitch, twitch, pause, 1,2,3,4,BAM. Whale fart under my plug!! All of a sudden Im wrestling with something that hit like a trout but its running sideways!! I tell Keith I got a good red on and he said man, that hit like a trout. Then my life flashes before me as I see the speckled bruiser for the first time!!! Holy Shiottt , I start coaching myself!! Rod tip down keep him in the water , easy now , . Get the fish to the side of the boat and Keith goes to net him. I take my eyes off the fish and make a mistake. The fish screams drag and pulls my rod tip under the boat. From coaching to prayin in a millisecond. PLEASE JESUS PLEASE DONT LET GO, PLEASE JESUS PLEASE!!! Next pass by the boat and Keith scoops him. Straight to the bottom of the boat and he covers him with the net so While Im hitting a quick Hulk Hogan image, posing like Mr Olympia, two or three quick steps of the BUS STOP, the Cabbage Patch, and a little line dancing, I wont get a hook in me or kick the fish back in the water!!! We savor the moment for about ten minutes and tiger punch til our knuckles hurt!! Im stoked all day even though the fishing is slow. Then later that day Keith is slingin a jig head and BAM, He hooks up. He says this is a big trout. Im thinking where we are, its probably a twenty incher or so. Wrong!!! That fat azz fish comes by the boat and I holla, you done trumped my damn fish!!!! Keith plays him to the boat and I gracefully go down with the net. I ease it into the water ready for action. The fish plays perfectly to the net and I missed!!!!!! Oh hell, Keiths gonna kill me if I knock this fish off, Im gonna have to walk back to my own dang truck!!! Focus now, bring him by easy, net goes down, BOOYAH!! In the boat, dancin and highfivein again!!! Keith never let anyone tell you you dont have a hell of a boat, If it can hold up to all the dancing and booyahs I laid down yesterday, it can stand up to anything!!!Thems some pig trouts we caught and the reds werent too bad either!! Too bad it wasnt tourney day! Speaking of tourney, I weighed that damn trout four times when I got home. I got four different weights again.I wonder how accurate the weight calculator is on the home page of this site?? I measured the fish again and she is 27.5" long and 14.25" around her middle. Type that into the calculator and she weighs 6.98lbs. I say the fish weighs between 6 and 7 when asked. We weighed her yesterday and never got the same weight even once. We got from 4.1 to 7.2 lbs ??????? Heath is ordering me a set of boga grips today!!! Dang a Berkley grip and weigh!!! Great day and cant wait to do it AGAIN!!! Hopefully we can both be some nervous net men again!!!     Can I Get A BOOYAHH and a HELL YEA!!!!! :-D :smt005
