6-1 Aucilla

Post by whitebc »

Took a friend out this weekend that has only been once before so we went to Aucilla R around 7:30 eased out of the West pass and saw a "Red" with his tail in the air, thought maybe this would be the one... Tried around there for a good 30 min then just figured they didn't like anything in the tackle box(another trip to the fishing dept :-D ). Makes week # 5 in the new boat took 3 different "Redfisher's" out with me and still haven't landed one(not quite sure they even exist :-D ). Got a  out for good luck still didn't help. I broke the trolling motor shaft in half last week so I left the creeks and ran out to 4 foot, 30 min nothing but shorts. (Another    ). 15 min at about 6.5 feet on good looking bottom and nothin.  Out to 8-10' Blue fish galore that was fun at least they were fighting good!! :-D Ran to another spot from 2 weeks ago and finally got a keeper :-D. Live pin fish rod hit the side of the boat and the drag went to singin :smt007 sounded like a good fish, fought it for about 3 min and finally saw it 4-5' long and gray (never seen a cobia in person, thought maybe???) Drag sang to me again finally got it turned around again got it to the boat pulled a nose out of the water then more nose then more nose then finally a mouth :smt017 I am guessing it was a gar(didnt know they lived in the salt water, guess I was wrong :smt102 ) Fished there (5.5') until around 1:30 final total:

1 - 4'-5' Gar???
3 - Blues
58 - Poor Boy Tarpons
8 - Keeper Trout
89 - Shorts :-D

All in all good weekend, better than work!!

I hooked a big alligator gar about two weeks ago down there....I had about the same response only to be told by J.R. that yes they do inhabit the salty.

GR trying to catch the elusive "Redfish" , my passenger had it on 100 trying to go against the tide and against the wind and hit a OLD hidden crab trap. Broke the shaft right in half at the bow. Minn Kota, Mikes Marine said since it was only a month old they would fix it under warranty.
