BH, you're arguing a technicality. The water from Lanier does not make it to the gulf, true. But, the water from Lanier DOES make it to West Point, and the water from West Point DOES make it to Bartletts Ferry, and the water from Lake Oliver DOES make it to Eufaula, and the water from Eufuala DOES make it to Lake Seminole. Everything affects everything else, and it all starts at the top. But....you're right, without the long system of dams I would speculate that the Chattahoochee/Appalach river would have been damn near dry over 1 1/2 years due to lack of rainfall. And Boggob is right, more water is pumped out of Ag pivots in GA than any city could ever use in a given amount of time.

OK, you've made your point. We don't like Atlanta any more than you do. We'll give up Atlanta to you and you can do whatever you want with them. We'd like to have Miami in return so we can safely get to the Keys. The only thing we ask is that somebody down there get control of "fishing regulators" and let everybody make a fishing trip worthwhile. I think the problem is that everybody doesn't appreciate and enjoy nature like most on this site. I really haven't ever understood how some people seem to enjoy working in their yards as much as I enjoy fishing.

R C, I love farmers, got some good friends who are, I love fishing, I love the Gulf, I don't give a f about a nice yard, I think everyone should have wood chips and pinestraw for a yard, whatever, but I don't see how blaming the water crisis on any one thing or city makes any sense. To many doomsday prophecies going on these days. We'll all be alright, fishing or fish aren't going anywhere and neither is Apalach bay or the Gulf of Mexico. Matter of fact, I think I'll go have a dozen on the half shell right now to support those poor oystermen and make myself feel better.

The same thing is happening in South Florida. They want to take water from the Suwannee. We should divide Florida into two pieces while we are at it. The next state line can be I-4. Just let the north half have Daytona and Urban Meyer.

Save our North Florida way of life. Go Gators!

I don't know about the Noles part of it but you're right Bman, I've never notcied that "pattern". It's Urban's fault and Tebow had something to do it too I'm sure.

I wasn't trying to get on any farmer's case. Farmers have made great improvements in efficiency. Ga EPD has come a long way. UGA Agricultural co-op has done some great work. UF has done some great work as well as FSU's Oceanography Dept. I was merely stating the fact that its a basinwide issue that is going to need a basinwide solution.

It probably wasn't the best idea to drain Tate's Hell. Efforts are being made in that regard as well.

Atlanta and its sprawl is the worse offender in this case, in my view, since eveyone has known that its water resources are limited for several decades. That's why they are fighting to get their northern border moved, so they can get their pipes in the Tennessee River. A similar thing is happening and developing in SE Georiga on the Savannah River.

It won't matter much in a few years anyway. Either the whole coast will look like the rest of Florida, it will all be underwater, we'll all be farming and walking (or riding horses), or all of the above.
